Actually, "football" (and yes, it's spelt/spelled that way) refers to more than one sportWhat it means depends on where you're from. In the US the name refers to a game in which the players are packed in body armour and have little contact between the ball and their feet during the game. This game is known to non-americans as "American football". I the rest of the world (more or less), "football" refers to a game which is actually played with the feet.

Then I haven't even started about Australian football, Gaelic football, rugby etc., which are altogether different games, though sharing some familiarities with the aforementioned games.

However, the term "football" seems most appropriate for the world's most popular sport known to Americans as "soccer", due to the fact that it is the only one of the many varieties actually played (almost) exclusively with the feet.

PS: Since "football" is an English invention, no relation to a German word is relevant. "Fussball" is just the German translation.

This "double genative" is commonly used with people, and particularly in the construction in your example. "her mother's friend" is also fine.

2) What's the meaning of 'ever since' ? E.g.: Ever since he was in the army, he has studied hard;

From the time that... Dating back to the time when...

3) "He lives at 341 Bourboun street apartment 23" (in addresses must the word street be translated from a foreign language into English ? E.g.: In Spain street is 'calle'. In this case when I have to say my address in English do I translate the word 'calle' or not ? E.g.:

4) I live at 201 Cervantes calle apartment 101 (or) I live at 201 Cervantes street apartment 101 ? ;

Street should be capitalized -- it's the proper name of the street. I would leave it exactly as is. If someone lived at 221 Rue Charlemagne, I would not write it as "Charlemagne Street." As with any proper nouns, leave them as is, unless the entire phrase has its one translation, e.g., The United States = Les Etats Unis. Leave Street (capital S) as Street and calle as calle.

5) What do we call a organized group of soccer fans that goes to a stadium to watch a soccer/football match ? Is it called organized claque or organized supporters ?

I'm not familiar with this. Organized supporters sounds okay. For a rock band, they are called groupies, but I don't know what soccer fans are called.

6) People who stay outside a stadium trying to sell tickets at a higher price than at a ticket office, are they called street peddler of tickets ?

Scalpers. I don't have a ticket. That's okay - as long as you're willing to pay, I'm sure you'll find a scalper who can sell you one.

7) A special service in which the employees' service is to listen (by phone) to citizens general complaints, for instance, about the bad services offered at a stadium, is it called Ombusdman office ?

Ombudsman is indeed the name for such a service, but it's more commonly found (in my experience) in an organization paid for/supported by the patrons/clients, and not in private industry. The government student loan program has an ombudsman; your local bank has customer service. Also, a company can have an ombudsman to hear issues about ethics, etc., from employees. Still, a company can have an ombudsman for the general public if desired.

To get to the stadium by car or bus has been problematic for the last two years. The main soccer object is located on the {cannot get the name} mountains. Narrow roads and pavements are overcrowded with people going to a football match. And the usual colour of T-shirts and "roses" has been claret for a long time. Those who sell attributes for fans are under police eye that checks them every hour. While at the central bridge a "rose" of the football club "Sarajevo", after some haggling, may cost 10 marks, the price at the stadium is 15!

I can understand the whole idea of the text, but sometimes it's difficult to translate a separate sentence! I think I'll keep on translating paragraph by paragraph.

1) native American English speaker

2) I understand it, but I do not think it is a clear expression. In some cases I might not be sure I completely understand the intent of the speaker.

3) I never use this expression.

4) If I used it I would not use it for sports. For example, if I said "I go in for football" - would that mean I like to play football, or I like to watch football, or what? In my opinion the phrase is too vague. (note: while we are attending a school, we often say "I am going out for football" meaning I'm joining the football program - this is appropriate in my opinion.)

Personally, the only time I might use this expression is in the informal phrase "I do not go in for that sort of thing", in response to someone asking me to do something I do not want to do, like drugs or ice fishing.

5) It does not sound archaic, but it does sound a little dated- that is, I would not be suprised to hear it in a 1950's movie spoken by a silly high school girl or a nerdy guy, or perhaps in a current movie set in the 50's or 60's.

6) I do not recommend the use of this expression for any purpose. In my opinion it is vague. It is what I would call 'lazy speech': just go ahead and say what you really mean.

If I heard someone with a foreign accent say this I might guess they were making a literal translation from their own language and I would not assume I understood them. I would probably ask for clarification.

Note: There are times when you might use the three words together, but it's not an expression: "I go in for a doctors appointment" - means you are actually going in someplace to see a doctor. (usually: "I went in for a doctors appointment" or "I am going in for a doctors appointment tomorrow")

I work in a publishing house and, even though it is not my normal duty, I have been asked to translate a text for a press release related to a book we are about to publish. (Usually we are served by a specialized agency for translations, but this time we have to do it on our own, because of lack of time and money).

So, you can read my translation of the text below. Could anyone who is English native speaker have a look at it and tell me whether it makes sense and suggest corrections or improvements? I would really appreciate it!!! I'm not including the original Italian text, I just need to know that my English text doesn't contain mistakes or non-sense...

I'd start with your qualifications and papers as your employment history is not all that relevant to this position. You want them to keep reading and not stop at the first section. You could even split the employment into 'Scientific work experience' and 'other work experience'. You need to sort out the presentation as well, at the moment it is very 'bitty' and quite hard to follow. Too much random indenting/underlining etc.

Employment we usually put the actual dates of employment month/year to month/year, not just '5 months' etc. Some detail beyond job title is useful.

When blindness comes, it will be as if someone shut him up in the dark. (No one is really going to shut him up in the dark.)
The blindness will come only after a year passes (even) if he is very careful about taking care of his eyes.
(It will come even sooner if he is not careful.) [I don't see how it can possibly be pendant un an here.]
When he becomes blind, he will not be able to see anybody; he will not be able to have anything that he wants.
(He is talking to the dog, using "we" as if the dog were also going to be blind. The pronoun on should do fine here.)
He wants to know how it feels to be blind. [I'm sure you meant to write "feels"!]
