I'm attending an interchange program at my university and I need to write a motivation letter in english. Can someone make suggestions about the text or abot the grammar plz?

Here's the letter:

Normal 0 21 false false false PT-BR X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 21 false false false PT-BR X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Thiago de Campos Moraes, I am 19 years old and study at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos(UFSCar). I am a Computer Engineering student currently at the fourth semester, willing to apply the ISAC project from the Erasmus Mundus project.

The main reason that made me want to study abroad through y this interchange program is that despite the knowledge acquired during my stay at UFSCar, meeting people with different cultures may be excellent to become a more mature person. It's even better that this opportunity is available at such great universities, which have great academic programs to choose, making it an excellent academic choice too.

My intention would be to attend at classes related to computer engineering among with some Electronic Engineering classes because those courses doesn’t exist at my university and it’s a subject that interests me and is related to my field of study.

Considering that choice, my first option would be the Luleå University of Technology, in Sweden, followed by the Czech Technical University in the Czech Republic and the Universidade de Coimbra. This reflects my intentions of participating on this program attending classes in English, which is the main language at my field of study that can be used to improve my communication skills in this language and to learn an entire new language at the same time. Coimbra is a great option too, being one of the most traditional universities of the world, with undeniable reputation. Even though these countries are totally different from Brazil, I have already lived in 5 different cities here, I think this fact grants me some experience in adapting myself to new places.

About academic background I would say I’m not a perfect student, but I always try to keep my grades above average. I also have participated on the organization of events such a reunion of all the students from my course since the first class. This fact shows that I am integrated at my university as a society and I can share my experiences with many different students, making the program a rich experience to a large amount of people.

To finish this letter, I want to thank for having this opportunity, that experience of studying abroad for that longer wouldn’t be possible to me if it were not by programs like this. It’s a great chance and I really want to make part of the ISAC project.

  thanks in advance

Re: Letter of Motivation for Eventmanagement

Hi,

gosh, I have seen many samples of covering letter/cover letter/letter of motivation in German and English and not a single one included a quote, which means it is very risky to put something like that in a formal letter and a hard test for the HR department. In my opinion it is a too creative step but this is only my opinion. There are other ways to show who you are.

Maybe you should look for samples of formal letter on the net, then pick everything you like and prepare your letter. My covering letters are full with phrases, which I like, taken from ads/samples etc. I have my mini database with such phrases for every situation If I try to invent something completely new, usually it isn't so good

Best wishes!

Re: letter of motivation, help and suggestions wanted

xatso hi!
thank u for your time spent in correcting my letter and for all the suggestions that you've given to me. they have been very useful. expecially all this reformulated sentences that sound much better now. I have poorly used english in past two years so I lost the 'touch'. and no, your comments aren't rude att all, I'm grateful for your honesty. thx.
I know that this kind of letters are usually very formal cause I write them from time to time when applying for a job. and my first version of this letter was pretty formal, but than I was thinking and... this is a kind of volunteering has for a gold collecting a group of various people (people are coming from all parts of the world), choosed by their nationalite, different cultures, gender, interests... and they are looking for someone who has to offer more with his/her personality and multiple interests than with his/her job skills. so I think that some parts that you find irrelevent aren't so irrelevent at all. things like - I also speak a bit of slovenian, a deaf-mute language, what kind of a dance I preforme and so on. also, this are people who are aware you're applying for their project mosty to learn language and to get some new experinces and knoledges. and it very important to underline how much you like working with people. I would like to express my personality with this letter, not only my job qualifacitions so I delibertly tryed to incorporate some kind of 'friendly talk'. but that's how I see it, probaly I went to far, I don't know, you still think I should write a strickly formal letter? that this kind of 'not so formal letter' would not pass very well? this is a first time I'm applyinfg for something like this, so I'm grateful for any advice.
thanks and i hope that I didn't sound rude this time
Re: informal Letter of Motivation for WorkingHoliday

Try this and note the changes:

There's no are perfect templates or instructions on how to write your motivation letter for a BEST courses - every student is unique, and this should be reflected in this letter! However, there are some general tips and hints that might be useful, and might help you in getting accepted more easily!
First of all - when writing a motivation letter, do keep in mind that it is going to be read by students, just like you. They get many applications from which they have to choose - and the only tool they have to choose is the student's motivation letters. It might be that the organisers have to read a few hundred motivation letters, so to attract their attention, try to be creative and funny.

So do not write a formal letter, do not start it with "Dear Madam or Sir", and importantly, do not make it look like a CV - do not state all the schools you visited, all the jobs you did during your life, etc.. write an interesting letter in prose style!

In general, your motivation letter should focus on the following parts:
•	Something about yourself - what you study, what you do in your life , what are your hobbies, sports you do, maybe what languages you speak...

BEST courses are always a lot of fun, so the organisers should know that you are a funny person!
•	Why you want to go to abroad, and why do you want to go to a BEST summer/winter/spring course!

It is important for the organisers to have internationally minded, open persons - the course does not consist only of the academic program!

•	Why you want to go to especially THIS event you're applying for: why is the topic attractive, why might the knowledge you can gain there help you (in your studies, in your future carreer...) - the event does neither consist of only the social part, so let the organisers know that you are interested in the course as well!!!

•	Sometimes, it is needed to tell the organisers that you have a sufficient knowledge of the topic - so let them know that and how you do! To find out what is expected - read the course information on the webpages carefully, as probably there are some hints telling you which kind of participant are expected to apply!

•	Be careful, and send the appropriate letter to the appropriate place (don't mix them if you apply to more than one course!)

•	Don't let the letter be too short or too long – One, or half of an A4 page, is just enough to get the organisers to notice you. If the letter is too long, they might not want to read it, but if it's too short, they will think that you are not interested enough in the course!
•	Of course, the letter has to be written in English

These are just some general hints - take the ones you want, leave the ones you don't like, but in any case, add your own imagination and style, be creative, and you'll have your motivation letter to go on a BEST course!
