Nothing is comparable to enjoying the satisfied smile on peopleâs face after they receive help. It is this smile that attracts me to ~~pursue~~ a legal profession.

Since high school, books and TV programs about practicing law have interested me profoundly. Studying law at university brought me to a new world of jurisprudence. Having taken basic legal courses like Civil Law, Criminal Law, International Private Law, and Contract Law ~~and so on~~, my quest for knowledge has only intensified. Thus, I spent most nights at library reading books like The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, On Crimes and Punishments by Cesare Beccaria, A Theory of Justice by John Rawls, etc. ~~Certainly, due to my diligence and intelligence,~~ I topped my class in many courses and ended up with a GPA of 3.5/4.0.

Since basic legal knowledge is never enough for a prospective lawyer, I participated in extracurricular activities to put what I learnt into practice. I have been a member of our collegeâs legal advisory team for three years, which benefits me a lot in resolving real legal issues. During my internship at HuaLi Law Firm, I was assigned several important tasks like drafting legal documents, registered cases because of my excellent writing skill and strong sense of responsibility.

Besides, I am an active participant of various campus activities such as the debate for freshman, the Lilv Cup moot court, the cuisine competition, etc. Although I failed in some contests, I still believe that the process of experiencing and learning is always more important than the results. By taking these activities, my confidence was improved and my communication skill was advanced.
As the editor-in-chief of a biweekly campus magazine, I introduced a new column which became popular among students. Moreover, our team under my direction accomplished the publicity work of the University Cuisine Festival. Also, as the project manager of SIFE, a global student organization, I planned and managed a four-day embroidery exhibition at Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre.

Outside pure academics and leadership roles, I am keen on volunteer work. In my freshman year, I tutored a teenage girl in math for free. When she made significant progress in her examination, the smile she worn touched me deeply. I saw the same smile on the faces of ~~the~~ special athletes when I helped them in the Special Olympics and of the migrant workersâ children when I made toys to realize their dreams. I always have faith that individual value will be proved and improved by offering help to those in need.

Moreover, after exposure to plenty of transnational business disputes, I resolved to specialize in international commercial law to help those companies out of troubles. Thus, pursuing an LL.M degree in an overseas university becomes indispensable for me. However, the expense is too high for an ordinary Chinese family like mine. Therefore, this scholarship will help me achieve my dream.

The River Cam is a tributary of the River Great Ouse in the east of England. The two rivers join to the south of Ely at Pope's Corner. The Great Ouse connects the Cam to England's canal system. In earlier times the Cam was named the Granta, but after the name of the Anglo-Saxon town of Grantebrycge had been modified to Cambridge, the river was renamed to match. It has no connection with the much smaller River Cam in Gloucestershire.

The Cam connects Cambridge with the North Sea at King's Lynn, a total distance of about 40 miles (64 km). An organisation called the Conservators of the River Cam was formed in 1702, charged with keeping the river navigable. The Conservators are responsible for the three locks in and north east of Cambridge: Jesus Lock ( 52Â°12â²46â³N, 0Â°7â²15â³E), Baits Bite Lock ( 52Â°14â²11â³N, 0Â°10â²28â³E) and Bottisham Lock ( 52Â°16â²7â³N, 0Â°12â²32â³E). The stretch north of Baits Bite Lock is called the lower river.

The middle river, between Jesus Lock and Baits Bite Lock, is the training and racing home of the university college and town rowing teams. The Cambridge Lent, May and Town Bumps rowing races are held here.

There are also many houseboats on this stretch, forming a community who call themselves the Camboaters.^[1] Access for mechanically powered boats is allowed as far as 'La Mimosa' Pub at the upstream end of Jesus Green between 1 April and 30 September. Between 1st October and 31st March access is allowed as far as Mill Pool, but few people take advantage of this, as the river has very few mooring places along the Backs, and the river is too narrow and bridges too low to afford easy passing/turning for many boats.

The stretch above Jesus Lock is known as the upper river. Between Jesus Lock and the Mill Pond, it passes through the Backs below the walls of many of the colleges. This is the section of river most popular with tourists, with its picture-postcard views of elegant bridges, green lawns and graceful willows. This stretch also has the unusual feature of the remains of a submerged towpath: the riverside colleges did not permit barge horses on the Backs, so the beasts waded up the Cam to the mill pulling their loads behind them.

From the Mill Pond and its weir, the river can be followed upstream through Granchester meadows to the village of Grantchester and Byron's Pool, where it is fed by many streams. In the summer the upper river is open only to manually propelled craft, the most common of which are the flat-bottomed punts. Punts and canoes can be manhandled around the weir by means of the rollers, a slipway from lower to upper level.

The two principal tributaries of the Cam are the Granta and the Rhee, though both are also officially known as the Cam. The Rhee begins just west of Ashwell in Hertfordshire running 12 miles through the farmland of southern Cambridgeshire. The longer tributary, the Granta, starts near the village of Widdington in Essex flowing the 15 miles north past Audley End House to merge with the Rhee a mile south of Grantchester. A further tributary, also known as the Granta, runs 10 miles from south of Haverhill to join the larger Granta south of Great Shelford. Another minor tributary is Bourn Brook which has its source near the village of Eltisley, 10 miles west of Cambridge, running east through Caxton, Bourn and Toft to join the Cam at Byron's Pool, where the poet, Lord Byron, is reputed to have swum.

Byron's Pool was certainly a bathing place for Rupert Brooke and the Cambridge neo-Pagans. Brooke used to canoe from Cambridge to lodgings in Granchester, which included the Old Vicarage. His homesick poem of 1912 evokes the river:

A tunnel of green gloom, and sleep
Deeply above; and green and deep
The stream mysterious glides beneath,
Green as a dream and deep as death.

One of Brooke's contemporaries, Gwen Darwin, later Raverat, grew up in the old mill by the Mill Pond. Her book, Period Piece, is a memoir of a childhood messing about on the river. The mill house is now part of Darwin College.

Children's author Philippa Pearce, who lived in Great Shelford until her death in December 2006, featured the Cam in her books, most notably Minnow on the Say. The river is re-named the River Say, with Great and Little Shelford becoming Great and Little Barley, and Cambridge becoming "Castleford" (not to be confused with the real town of the same name in West Yorkshire).

River Cam is referred to as "Camus, reverend Sire" in line 103 of John Milton's pastoral elegy Lycidas. Edward King, in whose memory the elegy was composed, was a fellow student at Cambridge.

The local swimming club's annual swim from the Mill pond to Jesus Green was cancelled for some years in the past because of higher pollution levels.^{[citation needed]}

The water isn't murky and is clean enough from its source to its confluence with the Great Ouse to support fish.
The Cam below Bottisham Sluice may still hold Burbot, a fish thought to be extinct in English waters since the early seventies. A novice fisherman named Phil describes a fish he caught there that matches the distinct characteristics of the Burbot.

I am about to translate a sort of "economic" report about Italian regions.
It`s the firs time i come across something like that so I really need your help.
Let`s start then!

Is it correct to write:"Its GDP is estimated around 14.200 euro"?
would you write something like: "he would like to meet delegates of productive world and commercial distribution"?
Would you use to write a formal report in English an expression such as "The Regional Director of Sicily would be pleased/honored to meet the Chief minister of Andrha to discuss about agricultural,mevhanical,navy and furniture industry"..does it sound right??
Do you also have in English the expressione "three economic sectors" to refer to i 3 settori economici ovvero primario, secondario e terziario?
Referring to enviromental issues, would you say:"He would like to compare and discuss experiences related to development and qualification of teh territory such as energy/enviroment, data transmission nets and social and logistical services"?
How do you say in English "attivita` produttive"?
Does it sound right something like: Sicily`s main incomings are represented by mechanical engineering, transportation equipment and telecommunications."? Or: "Its main productive business are breeding and wine".
And what about this:" he would be pleased to meet you in order to plan collbaoration`s agreement to organize exchanges within universities and research sector"? Is within right or between is better?
the idea is to let students move by universities...
Last thing, do you usually use in English to write You with initial capital letter if you ae addressing to someone important?

As you can see, I have a lot of doubts cause I have never attended a business English class before...even if I feel it`s time to take one !
I would extremely appreciate your suggetsions, advice and, basicly, your help!

Because of the poor economic and financial situation in my country, I wish to apply for a scholarship to accomplish my professional goals of becoming a leader. If I successfully graduate from the Institute, I will play an active role in the development of my country and the world.

    Letter of Motivation

I wish to apply for admission to pursue a Masterâs Degree in Diplomacy at Yale University in September 2008.

Prior to my university study, diplomacy has always influenced my choice of study stemming from the fact that diplomacy is an important factor in the development of any society. Why? Society needs decisive leaders on the international scene, to protect its interests.

     My university academic background is based on two major disciplines, Public Administration and history, which are some of the core subjects in diplomacy. There the curriculum for Political Science and History was based on Administrative Responsibility and Accountability and International Relations.

     I studied in two areas related to diplomacy because I believed that I would be preparing myself to pursue a career in diplomacy or working in an international organization and to become a leader whose decision would have a positive effect on society. During my studies at the university, I was involved in various presentations, brainstorming, and discussion groups in which I had the opportunity to start training my leadership skills. By the time I successfully completed my studies, I had acquired excellent leadership, administrative, and organizational skills. I was inspired to think critically, reflect and put forward my ideas, and go beyond surfaces. I have learned to apply critical thought to real life situations. I believe the sum of all this makes me suitable to pursue a Masters in diplomacy.

     After three years of study, I was employed to head the developement program of an international non governmental organization. Why a fresh graduate to head the program? This was a result of the development programs I submitted to the organization prior to my interview. I clearly exhibited my leadership skills through the various programs I initiated such as the youth leadership program aimed at youths. We thought them to carry out responsibilities bestowed on them. As well our aim was to reduce juvenile delinquency, and to improve the life of the under privileged by introducing several ways of generating income.

   In 2001, I decided to go abroad to expand my work experience in an international arena, experience a foreign culture, and broaden my scope on life. England is my prime destination due to its growing economy and its role in international politics. I was employed to head the international department of a foreign company, specializing in labor import, exportation and developmental project analysis and implementation. Here, I have the chance to work on an international level and improve my intercultural skills. Within an international team, I work on competitive development programs for foreign companies looking for suitable developmental projects. I write reports about their strategy and implementation.

While working in England, I always ponder why Africa and other parts of the world are plagued with civil and tribal wars, political crises, and slow economic growth. Most of the peace talks always turn out to be futile thus paving the way for more fighting and political problems in our society. After a careful analysis of the whole situation, I realize that Africa and other parts of the world needs leaders with strong technical and analytical skills to solve these problems. As a result, I am motivated to pursue a master degree in in diplomacy. This is going to lead me to my career ambition of being a diplomat.

After a careful research and analysis of more than thirty universities in terms of their programs and course structures, I chose Yale Universitybecause of its well defined Masters of diplmacy program, I believe I will go a long way to enhance my leadership skills. Its mobility program with other outstanding universities will give me the opportunity to interact with fellow students from different cultural backgrounds, views and opinions. Its creative and analytical seminars are also an impetus in my decision to study at the institute. Taking part in such seminars, I will be building a strong foundation for my future career.

     I am excited about my decision to pursue a master degree in diplomacy at Yale University. In conclusion I ask for the opportunity to pursue my goal.

Whereas still and yet normally refer to present and future circumstances, already normally refers to something that is in the present or recent past. It is mainly used in questions and affirmative sentences and usually expresses surprise that something has happened sooner than expected.

Another reliable source is Michael Swan (Practical English Usage, Oxford University Press, 1997):

In questions, we use yet to ask whether something expected has happened.
