The person I wanted to give it to for proof-reading and feedback, is currently defending her Phd and has absolutely no time... so I thouht, maybe I could get some feedback here? I would appreciate it very much!

Here's my draft:

Dear Sir or Madam,

With the
present statement of purpose I wish to support my application to the [name of
program] program offered by the [name of department or school] at the [name of
university].

This
summer I will be awarded my BA degree at the University of [name of current university] in
Switzerland, approximately ten years after my High-School peers. I cannot say that I've always wanted to study
international development. In fact, my rather late decision to pursue an
academic education is the result of a long and careful reassessment of my
career. I came to the point where I felt that my professional activity in the
field of business IT did not meet my personal ambitions to do something that
would make a difference for society in one way or the other. I realised, that I
needed a major career change and switched from business IT to human resources
process management as a first step in the process of redirecting my career in a
more humanitarian direction. After two
years of seriously re-evaluating my personal objectives, I came to the
conclusion that I want to aim at a career in development. My goal is to work
conceptually on programming and evaluating development projects for the United
Nations, a governmental development agency or an international NGO, wherever
possible taking a gendered perspective.

The next
and maybe most important step towards reaching this goal was to commence my
academic studies at the University of Fribourg. I adapted quickly to being a
student again and enjoy the encouraging and inspiring environment of a
university ever since. I have been studying Social work and Social Policy as a
major and Social Anthropology as a minor. My studies are focussed on social
policy, social research, gender issues, human rights and migration. I feel that
my choice of classes (please refer to my grade transcripts) provides me with a
broad and solid basis to specialise on development issues in my MA.

My BA
programme being highly research oriented, I have been able to acquire
considerable research skills working on our BA thesis on the labour situation
of clandestine migrant women in Switzerland and their coping strategies with
their precarious situation. Additionally I've been offered the opportunity to
conduct qualitative interviews for a project assessing the non profit sector in
Switzerland under the guidance of Prof. Dr. [name of professor] at the department
of Social Work and Social Policy at the [name of current university].

My
professional background provides me, in addition to specific knowhow, a variety
of skills beneficiary to my academic work as well as my future activity in
development. I learnt to take responsibility, how to handle
pressure and to meet deadlines, how to manage projects, to work in a team as
well as analytical thinking and communicational skills. Additionally I've been
able to develop leadership skills and gain experiences in university politics
in my positions as president of the students' equality commission and head of
communications department of my branches
student body committee.

When one
of the lecturers of an interdisciplinary gender studies seminar I attended in
fall term 2007 offered me the opportunity to attend the 52nd session of the UN
Commission on the Status of Women in New York this February, I grasped this
chance without hesitation. I was free to chose from all of the events offered
by international NGOs and permanent missions to the UN and took part in the NGO
consultation as well as in workshops like "Promoting Gender Equality and
the MDGs - Progress, Strategies and Finances", "...",
"..." and "...". Participation in these workshops further
strengthened me in my determination to become a development professional. I was
particularly impressed by the combination of academic understanding, personal
conviction and political mission noticeable at the conference.

I am
aware that reaching my goal will be highly competitive. Being a very targeted
and ambitious person, however, I'm determined to do my very best at working
towards it. The more lectures and seminars I've followed, the more I've read
during my BA studies, the more I've become aware of how little I actually know.
This understanding has further contributed to my determination to continue
learning as much as I can. I feel that
the international environment of the University of Bath as well as the
possibility offered by your MSc programme in international development of acquiring a solid understanding of different
perspectives and concepts in development before choosing my own areas of
special interest to focus on will prepare me in the best possible way for my
future plans.

As a
British citizen having lived outside of the UK most of my life, I would love to
accomplish at least one part of my education in my home country. Considering my broad academic foundation as well as my
professional background, I am confident
that I would make a suitable candidate to the [name of department]. I would be more than happy
if you could accept me to the [name of program] program this fall term. Thank
you very much for your time and for considering my application, I look forward
very much to your reply.

Yours sincerely,

Re: Letter of Motivation/Cover Letter

Hello!I will be very grateful if you help me to check my motivation letter. Thanks in advance!
Dear Sir or
Madam,
My name is Simeon Kostov, presently a student in my final year at high school. I am
born and raised in Bulgaria ,in a family
in which the most priced values are tolerance and cultural understanding .I
have always wanted to get international communication experience and to get
know different countries with their unique traditions ,culture ,customs and
historical heritage. I am quite sure
that becoming acquainted with another culture and living in a different social
environment would broadened my mind and would made me much more independent and
capable to face and deal with various issues and challenges .Getting sufficient
knowledge is my primary goal and I believe that the best way to achieve it is
studying abroad.

  In 2007 Bulgaria became
a member of the European Union which gave an opportunity to many talented and
ambitious young people to travel and to look for better educational
possibilities .I am one of these ambitious youngsters and i am very
enthusiastic about the opportunity to apply for the international study program
that you offer and to have chance to go abroad to study and work.

  Personally I define
myself as dynamic ,adaptable ,conscious and confident person .I am serious
goal-oriented individual ,highly motivated to face various challenges .I think
that a person should always be ready and well prepared to face and deal with
the challenges of the dynamic world in which we live in,that is why I am truly
convinced that studying abroad will provide me the invaluable experience and
opportunity to develop my communication skills to a high level .Residing in a
different social ,cultural , linguistic and bureaucrat environment would
enhanced my abilities to solve different and sometimes unexpected problems and
would made me a self-sufficient person
.Being an independent ,conscious and responsible person I am sure that I will
manage to adapt to a life in a foreign country. My independence and full
responsibility for myself have driven me to a higher level of maturity than
many of my peers, a quality that differentiates me from many other applicants.
Studying and communicating with people from various social and cultural backgrounds ,according to me are
amazing and exciting opportunities .I believe that the communication with other
people is not difficult to me, because I am very open, urging for knowledge and
sociable person.

My desire to study in
an international environment is one of
the main reasons for my choice to study abroad .The other significant
reason for my choice is the quality of the education provided by the European
universities. No matter in which specific field you would like to realize
yourself after graduating you would have
significant advantage if you have graduated in some of the prestigious European universities.

I am convinced that attending to one of the universities in
Denmark will give me great opportunities in the future to become a professional
in the field I would like to build up a career.

Every youngster`s
task is to choose the opportunities from all possibilities and according to
these,to create a vision of their future. My vision for the future is related
to my ambition for getting qualitative knowledge and becoming a professional
and I am highly resolute to achieve my goal.

When you decide to
study abroad you need to make yourself acquainted with the country in which you are going to
live in. That is why I made some researches for my own concerning all
educational possibilities in Denmark. Quite honestly I was astounded when I
discovered the various qualitative features of the Danish educational system. I
also was impressed by the attractive business climate with high standards in
education and research in an international perspective. I connected with some Bulgarian students
studying in Denmark and they gave me detailed information about the advantages
and disadvantages in the educational system in Denmark. They also shared with
me some of their experiences concerning
their adaptation to the Danish society .I think that the features of the Danish
educational system such as active study environments ,the interdisciplinary
studies and the project-based activities ,which unfortunately are not features
of the Bulgarian educational system, will contribute for providing me of
qualitative knowledge and competitive abilities for facing the challenges of an
international career .The Danish
educational system prepares you for the real world and helps you to develop
your skills that can be used for your professional career. According to me this
is very important because a person after his graduation should be very well
prepared to deal with the various issues concerning his occupation.
Unfortunately the Bulgarian educational system does not provide such an
effective and modern way of teaching as the Danish does that is why after many researches
I made my crucial choice to study in Denmark where the provocative way of
thinking is encouraged and the modern teaching methods take place.

I have got a clear
vision for my future studies. I would like to gain a solid knowledge of
cross-cultural and intercultural issues and strategies. I desire to work in the
field of international management of multinational companies. Working around
capital markets is the career I want. I believe that studying in Denmark will
enable me to develop the right professional qualities and to get the most
appropriate knowledge needed for becoming a professional, successful and
prosperous person.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. I hope that you will be persuaded of my
potential to perform well on this study program. I can be available for interview at any time and look forward to
hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,Simeon

I will appreciate any suggestions and comments to improve it. Thanks in advance!

Some notes:

COUNTRY_NAME = my resident country

XYZ = employer's name

*************************************************

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to apply for a position of Project Manager / Multimedia Developer (reference no. 00000) as advertised on XYZ’s on-line vacancy bulletin.

I first became interested in multimedia development and web-based applications twelve years ago. Since 2001, I am working as a project manager and developer in a leading internet agency in my country. As of March 2004, I am in charge for communication, management and execution of all online activities of ABC_CORPORATION in COUNTRY_NAME. The list of my responsibilities includes communication with the HQ office and local companies, website design, content development and update, adaptation of various online/ offline campaigns and presentations, research and invention of new channels for communication with target audience. During my practice I have developed a vast range of skills, for example: analysing complex numerical and verbal information, clear, concise writing for different contexts, working enthusiastically and productively under pressure, dealing professionally with a wide range of people, working in a variety of teams and on my own initiative, overcoming obstacles. I am comfortable in sourcing and handling data electronically. Making movies like the Flash presentation I've attached as a sample of my work is such an enjoyable experience, because I know how to turn content requirements into a multimedia concept by selecting the most appropriate choice of multimedia. I have a knack of the latest technologies which help me to evaluate rapidly project essentials, determine terms and deadlines, execute in full the project.

As you can see on my CV I lead a busy life through my daily responsibilities and various business activities, which has meant that I have very quickly learnt the importance of time management. I have always handed my work in on time and never missed a deadline. My communication skills have greatly developed through my work experience with ABC_CORPORATION and its markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

For the period of my management and fulfillment of the ABC_CORPORATION on-line activities, the ABC_CORPORATION recognizes COUNTRY_NAME as the fastest growing market in terms of Internet presence. My dedication to work and pursuit for perfection convinced ABC_CORPORATION to choose COUNTRY_NAME as a pilot market for several web-based projects and desktop applications. As of 2007 I am the person responsible for terms negotiation, concept development, execution and language adaptation of ABC_CORPORATION websites in COUNTRY_1, COUNTRY_2, COUNTRY_3, and COUNTRY_4.

XYZ position as a leading organization attracts me and I feel XYZ offers the opportunity to work with the type of people and projects that I am seeking. I feel I perform to a high standard and have a range of relevant skills that I can bring to XYZ.

I would be very keen to find out more about XYZ aims and would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further at an interview. I hope you will consider my application favourably and I look forward to hearing from you.

I wish to apply for admission to pursue a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy at Yale University.Prior to my university study, diplomacy has always influenced my choice of study stemming from the fact that diplomacy is an important factor in the development of any society. Why? Society needs decisive leaders on the international scene, to protect its interests.

My university academic background is based on two major disciplines, History and Political Science, which are two of the core subjects in diplomacy. There the curriculum for Political Science and History was based on Administrative Responsibility and Accountability and International Relations.

I studied in two areas related to diploamcy because I believed that I would be preparing myself to pursue a career in diplomacy or working in an international organization and to become a leader whose decision would have a positive effect on society. During my studies at the university, I was involved in various presentations, brainstorming, and discussion groups in which I had the opportunity to start training my leadership skills. By the time I successfully completed my studies, I had acquired excellent leadership, administrative, and organizational skills. I was inspired to think critically, reflect and put forward my ideas, and go beyond surfaces - surfaces is an incorrect word choice. I have learned to apply critical thought to real life situations. I believe the sum of all this makes me suitable to pursue a Masters in International Affairs.

After three years of study, I then decided that I wanted to take all the knowledge I have gathered in the university and put it in practice. The perfect opportunity for me came: I was employed to work at an international non governmental organization. Why a fresh graduate to head the program? This was a result of the development programs I submitted to the organization prior to my interview. I clearly exhibited my leadership skills through the various programs I initiated such as the youth leadership program. <STRIKE>aimed at youths</STRIKE>. We thought - thought is an incorrect word choice them to carry out responsibilities bestowed on them. <STRIKE>As well</STRIKE> our aim was to reduce juvenile delinquency, and to improve the life of the under privileged by introducing several ways of generating income.

In 2001, I decided to go abroad to expand my work experience in an international arena, experience a foreign culture, and broaden my scope on life. England was my prime destination due to its growing economy and its role in international politics. I was employed to head the international department of a Malaysian consulting company in England, specializing in labor import, exportation and developmental project analysis and implementation. Here, I have the chance to work on an international level and improve my intercultural skills. Within an international team, I work on competitive development programs for foreign companies looking for suitable developmental projects. I write reports about their strategy and implementation.

While working in England, I always ponder why the continent I come from and other parts of the world are plagued with civil and tribal wars, political crises, and slow economic growth. Most of the peace talks always turn out to be futile thus paving the way for more fighting and political problems in our society. After a careful analysis of the whole situation, I realize that Africa and other parts of the world needs leaders with strong technical and analytical skills to solve these problems. As a result, I am motivated to pursue a master degree in diplomacy to enhance my skills in diplomacy. This is going to lead me to my career ambition of being a diplomat.

After <STRIKE>a </STRIKE>careful research and analysis of more than thirty universities in terms of their programs and course structures, I chose the Yale university because of its well-defined diplomacy program. Studying in Yale, I believe I will go a long way to enhance my technical and analytical skills. Its mobility program with other outstanding universities will give me the opportunity to interact with fellow students from different cultural backgrounds, views and opinions. Its creative and analytical seminars are also an impetus in my decision to study at the institute. Taking part in such seminars, I will be building a strong foundation for my future career.

I am excited about my decision to pursue a master degree in diplomacy at Yale. In conclusion I ask for the opportunity to pursue and accomplish my goal at your institution。

I studied in two areas related to diplomacy because I believed that I would be preparing myself to pursue a career in diplomacy or working in an international organization and to become a leader whose decision would have a positive effect on society. During my studies at the university, I was involved in various presentations, brainstorming, and discussion groups in which I had the opportunity to start training my leadership skills. By the time I successfully completed my studies, I had acquired excellent leadership, administrative, and organizational skills. I was inspired to think critically, reflect and put forward my ideas, and go beyond surfaces. I have learned to apply critical thought to real life situations. I believe the sum of all this makes me suitable to pursue a Masters in diplomacy.

After three years of study, I was employed to head the developement program of an international non governmental organization. Why a fresh graduate to head the program? This was a result of the development programs I submitted to the organization prior to my interview. I clearly exhibited my leadership skills through the various programs I initiated such as the youth leadership program aimed at youths. We thought them to carry out responsibilities bestowed on them. As well our aim was to reduce juvenile delinquency, and to improve the life of the under privileged by introducing several ways of generating income.

In 2001, I decided to go abroad to expand my work experience in an international arena, experience a foreign culture, and broaden my scope on life. England is my prime destination due to its growing economy and its role in international politics. I was employed to head the international department of a foreign company, specializing in labor import, exportation and developmental project analysis and implementation. Here, I have the chance to work on an international level and improve my intercultural skills. Within an international team, I work on competitive development programs for foreign companies looking for suitable developmental projects. I write reports about their strategy and implementation.

While working in England, I always ponder why Africa and other parts of the world are plagued with civil and tribal wars, political crises, and slow economic growth. Most of the peace talks always turn out to be futile thus paving the way for more fighting and political problems in our society. After a careful analysis of the whole situation, I realize that Africa and other parts of the world needs leaders with strong technical and analytical skills to solve these problems. As a result, I am motivated to pursue a master degree in in diplomacy. This is going to lead me to my career ambition of being a diplomat.

After a careful research and analysis of more than thirty universities in terms of their programs and course structures, I chose Yale Universitybecause of its well defined Masters of diplmacy program, I believe I will go a long way to enhance my leadership skills.

I am excited about my decision to pursue a master degree in diplomacy at Yale University. In conclusion I ask for the opportunity to pursue my goal.
