Letter of Motivation for company scholarships

Hi,

Recently I came to know about this forum. And all of you did a great job here. I need to submit a motivation letter for a scholarship by tomorrow. So I made a draft one. Could you please check my letter and provide your valuable comments or suggestions. I will be very grateful for your help.

Letter of Motivation

I am writing to apply for the *** Masters Program Scholarships.

I get admission to the M.Sc. program in Information Technology in the Universitaet ABCD this year. I have completed my under graduation from the dept. of Computer Science & Engineering from AAAA University of Science & Technology, one of the prestigious public university in BBBB. I have outstanding academic background. I got the position 7th in my batch. My degree covers all aspects and applications of the electrical and computational methods. I have learned the programming skills and the applications in engineering through a variety of computer courses, like data structures, algorithms, operating systems, etc. I took several electrical courses. Among them I mostly enjoyed the Computer Interfacing & Instrumentation course. I designed a programmable display board with 8086 microprocessor kit as a project work. Through my studies I became fascinated with the issues of data communication and computer networking techniques. My strong interests in advanced communication technology has compelled me to be skilled in this field. Through my studies I have learned how to impart new technologies in the societies and evaluates its consequences.

After completing my graduation, I joined in a telecommunication company, Orascom Telecom, a GSM operator, as an Optimization Engineer in the Radio Access Network. The objective was to optimize the radio network in terms of capacity and quality. I was involved in optimizing the User Mobile interface in a GSM cellular network. Capacity planning and maintaining a standard grade of service by minimizing the interference level was my main concern. There I got chances to work with the *** Telecommunication product. I acquired clear concepts of the *** Radio Base stations and Base stations Controllers. I am skilled in optimization of the radio parameters. As an expert end-user of *** radio products, I experienced few distinctive features in terms of coverage, capacity and the radio parameters, which are very much customizable compare to other radio equipments. In order to evaluate my project management skills I would like to mention one of the successfully finished technical projects during my tenure. I coordinated the IBM Metrica Performance Manager installation and up gradation project. This is a real time performance management application, helps to optimize the network infrastructure and improve the network availability. As a technical coordinator, I setup the interfaces with the base stations controllers, designed the database queries and documented the technical issues.

I have attended a language course in order to improve my knowledge of German and to better understand the German culture. I am also fluent in English and Bengali. My previous working experience in an international multilingual company helped me to easily adapt to a new environment and I have also learned the commitment necessary to succeed as an individual and as a member of a team.

From the very childhood I cherish an idea to be involved in research work. At the AAAA University of Science and Technology my desire became stronger. And as a consequence I got a chance to get myself admitted at the Stuttgart university in the INFOTECH department, one of the prestigious university in the world for research work. This is a great opportunity for me indeed. I do need to work hard to pursue my M.Sc. that I cherished in the core of my heart. *** has a good reputation everywhere in the world for its goods because of its design durability and standard. Getting a scholarship from the noted *** will provide a great opportunity to gain knowledge and research skills. I should be proud of to be a member of *** family.

I have read your comments about the tips how to write a good letter of motivation for university applications. I think you are very good at it. Would you please help me.

I am 32 years old from Toronto, Canada. I am about to apply to Liverpool University Online program and as a part of the application requirement I have to complete a motivation letter. Unfortunately, I am not a very good writer, in addition to that my English skills are not perfect. I am considering them very poor.

I know I probably would have to redo this letter as it might be complete rubbish.. but what the hell.. I need to submit my letter of motivation. It took me an hour to complete... I dont know the inadequacies. Please help. I am applying to Leiden University, Netherlands

Here is my draft motivation letter

Ladies and Gentlemen:

My desire to study law did not have a particular incident or a reason. I decided at the age of 14 that I wanted to be a lawyer. I am always flummoxed by the query inquiring as to why I chose law. My answer is a standard one. I chose law, because I believe I can excel in it.

I studied at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies. It took me 5 years to complete my primary legal education. At the end of four years, I sat and re-assessed myself. I had to choose an area I would practise in. Much deliberation followed, but in the end I chose tax. The answer to me lies in the subject itself. Taxation to me, requires refined intelligence. It requires application on a continual basis with constant upgradation of oneâs understanding of the subject. In other words, I knew I would never suffer monotony of repetitive work which may not require application of mind.

When I announced my decision, most looked at me with a kind of look that they give to a person going to the gallows. They were further bewildered by the fact that I seemed to enjoy a subject that sometimes thrust the fear of God into the hearts of most. My tax professor however, told me that I would never regret my decision.

During my final year at college, I was recruited by Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, a tax firm primarily dealing with taxation matters. The firm was perfectionist in execution and anything less was inadequate. I was baptised in fire and quite literally so.

I do not know what tomorrow holds, but I do know that I enjoy my work as a taxation lawyer, as of now. Every new financial year results in new interpretations for an ever changing taxation law. It requires application of mind on a continual basis. Taxation may be one of the few areas where a month of absence would render you obsolete in the market. My work lets me deal with a variety of persons from different business background with a common request. Help them plan their taxes and thereby increase their profit margin. Poor tax planning can take a toll on a companyâs profits especially if the company is a large one.

My firm encourages continuing education. We have weekend classes to upgrade our knowledge of case-laws, changes in law, etc. They emphasise that free time is for reading on subjects that one is not familiar with. During my free time, I started to read international taxation. It was mostly to familiarize myself with the subject not dealt with by most, or dealt to a very minimum by most. What started then as a past time, evolved into a quest. A quest I believe can only be complete by undertaking a thorough study of the subject.

With the thirst for knowledge egging my mind to apply itself to fulfil the thirst, I researched on the most appropriate institution to quench my thirst. The decision was unanimous. Leiden University got its dedicated Intâl Tax Chair in 1986. It is a university with 340 odd years of experience in education. As with most, my mind told me that this is where I should go. It should be at Leiden that my quest for my LLM in International Taxation should be taken to. I do not know whether my decision is right, but I do know this, what ever decision I have taken so far has stood me in good stead.

Unlike earlier, this decision does not require attempting to pin the donkeyâs tail blind-folded. Where it was required I did, and the tail was stuck at the correct spot. No credit can be given to me for having succeeded. Today, I am very focussed on my goal. My goal can be simply stated thus,

âI desire to educate my self thoroughly on international taxation. Leiden is the most apt and best qualified to help me achieve my goal. Therefore, my current goal is to study international taxation at Leiden University.â

My name is [-] and I am hereby applying for the Master of Science in Business Administration program at the [-] for the 2008 fall term.

I am taking this step as the culmination of a long process of my life. I have determined to place education and my future career in the center of my life at a quite young age. After the 6^th year, I have left my primary school for a six year secondary school program highly focused on languages. During these years I have developed a great interest in business activities and economical issues and I realized the importance of foreign languages as the tools of becoming an international-minded, enlightened businessman.

Choosing the College of International Management and Business at Budapest, the capitol of Hungary as the institute of my undergraduate studies was the first embodiment of my determination to become part of the accelerated business life of our days. Learning in a city of 2 million can teach a lot outside the classrooms as well. While the college has given me professional knowledge of economical, business and social issues, the life in this metropolis with different cultures has improved a lot on my personality and point of view.

Since I was taking the International Business Economics program at the college, I have absolved a wide range of courses dealing with international business processes and methods. After acquiring the basic knowledge of economy, my interest pointed towards the cross-boarder activities of different business players. Accordingly I have specialized in Export-import management, which has helped me a lot to understand how such developments of the world of our days as the European Union and the spread of multinational corporations had affected the business life, which I am willing to take part of.

As the embodiment of the significance I put on the knowledge of foreign languages, I decided to take the Translator and Interpreter specialized in Business (in English) specialization voluntarily. This set of courses has not only developed my language skills but has brought me closer to the understanding of the Anglo-Saxon education and introduced me to learning in a foreign language.

During the last semester of my undergraduate studies, I have been an intern at the Hungarian Ministry of Economy and Transportâs Investment and Trade Development Agency, which has enriched me with numerous valuable skills. Besides enhancing my professional knowledge of the cross-boarder flow of goods and capital I have learned the basic rules of conduct in a professional environment, the respect of schedules and the importance of team work and personal responsibilities outside the school.

By the end of my undergraduate studies it has become all clear to me that I want to pursue an international carrier focused on business conducted within and between different countries. In order to achieve this, I need to widen my understanding and deepen my theoretical knowledge of international business activities. As Hungary is in the introduction phase of the Bologna system, the palette of Master programmes is still limited and in order to follow high quality education the choice of a well-established foreign university as the [-] seems to be a logical idea.

I believe that completing the MSc in Business Administration program would make me able to become a valuable employee of any corporation with international operations. Well, I think your letter of motivation looks like informal leteter, which could be send only for friend, becouse, in my opinion, that person, who will read your letter won't be interested in barbies and so on . So, my advice for you is to write more oficial letter. Good luck

I graduated with an Msc degree in Political Science at the Eotvos Lorand University in 2005 and I obtained a Bachelor Degree in Economics at the Zrinyi Miklos National Defence University in 2006. In both universities I was awarded with upper-second class degree.

I am engaged to make an international carrier in economics, specialized in finances and investments. My intention/dream is to work as an analyst for one of the top investment bank, hedge fund or as a finance advisor for a private trust in any local financial centre in the world but particularly in the City. Send all the documents in the same envelope. No separate envelope required.

You do not need to put anything in the letter - it should be clear to the recipient that it is the covering/motivation letter accompanying your application and resume.
