I am witting to apply for the postgraduate studies starting in the fall of 2007.

I found that the Master’s programme in the Human Rights corresponds well with my future plans in doing practical and legal work for human rights organizations. It is my ambition to be admitted, and pursue my postgraduate studies in the field of human rights and gain extensive competencies for future academic research and professional work.

My desire to study in the area of human rights reflects my interests in contemporary human rights issues, with a particular focus on human right to health. I want to gain broader understanding in International human rights law and implementation of social and economic rights. Furthermore, I am interested in human rights impact assessment and related research.

During the *** Bachelor Degree the program guided me in systematical researching, analytical thinking, and information evaluation. During my *** practice I became interested in human rights realization through community work. In addition to my *** studies, I have vast experience in work with human rights education programmes as well as implementing different trainings on human rights education. During my training experience I have acquired list of competencies including: the capacity to develop and manage a training or education programme on human rights education, while simultaneously applying quality criteria. Moreover, I am attending long term advanced training course in human rights education organized by the ***. I am willing to continue my work in human rights education field and I would love to contribute to Advocacy, Training and Education program in ***.

I have fulfilled my interests in human rights through becoming involved in a number of volunteering and internship opportunities ranging from being a human rights activist to being a peer educator in HIV/AIDS prevention program. Furthermore, I have been actively involved in implementation of “Youth Friendly Health Services” project. This project was conducted in partnership with UNDP and involved a lot of discussions about right to health.

When I finished my Bachelor studies in *** I got an offer to coordinate *** campaign. While working for the campaign I acquired knowledge and skills in advocacy building and lobbying for human rights as well as strengthened my desire to connect future academic life and work with human rights promotion and protection.

As a committed, thoughtful and hard-working person with long time experience in human rights activism and willingness to work for human rights organizations, I believe that I am a good candidate for the Master’s Program in Human Rights.

LETTER OF MOTIVATION

LETTER OF MOTIVATION AND CAREER OBJECTIVES

Working to improve children health and well-being particularly in poor communities is my great interest shaping my work/research background and future vision. Seeing healthy, happy and well developing children is a great satisfaction to me and it reflects fulfillment of a basic human right to them. In order to perform better in this field, my desire has been to do a masters degree which exposes me to multicultural experiences and multidisciplinary perspectives on current and emerging global health problems, on skills to analyse global health problems and on designing, implementing and evaluating health interventions, thanks that the x satisfies that desire and even beyond relative to other such programmes.

In addition, specific motivations of this programme are: First, it takes a short time; one-year permitting to return soon and apply the expertise gained and rejoin my family. Second, it is taught in English Language which I am proficient. Third, excellent study content and structure particularly Child Health which is my area of interest provided by very competent and most renowned institutions networked across Europe and so an added benefit for me to see much of Europe which is an adventure by itself. Fourth, there is x to support students and I am eligible. More importantly, it draws participants from the international community and hence provides settings for exchange of multidisciplinary perspectives/expertise and multicultural experiences.

World children on their own cannot decide on their health and development but it is leaders at different settings and professions who can. I am committed to be one of the true pro-children leaders. I expect to gain a lot from this study programme and thereafter utilize the expertise obtained to become a leader in researching and developing interventions to improve children health at domestic and international settings. Upon completion and return to Tanzania, I expect to set up a community-based health promotion program to improve newborn health and survival.

With my educational background, professional experiences, personal motivation, career objectives/research interest and sound health, I commit to work industriously to excellently complete this Masters Programme if accepted. This programme is an important cornerstone towards my future ambition to do a PhD on children health.

I hope my letter/application will be considered and granted opportunity to learn in the academic year 2007-08.

Sincerely Yours,

Dear Sir or Madam,

Working and living for one month in Bolivia has stirred my passion for other countries and cultures. I have ever since pursued a career that involves this passion and combines it with my strengths, interests and personality.

I would describe myself as a logical and analytical thinking person who enjoys taking on challenges and solving difficult situations. Using my own initiative and hard work to successfully complete various projects and get improvements done has always given me great pleasure. I always look forward to learn and I am especially interested in gaining more knowledge about business processes from the outset, particularly in the international field. What fascinates and interests me most are the political and cultural aspects that influence the international market.

The programme Export-Oriented Management combines my interests and passion. It would give me the possibility to gain the relevant knowledge to pursue a career in the industry where I see myself working in the future. The thought of being given the chance to learn another two languages in combination with receiving the know-how of international management, marketing or global political studies and much more, excites me enormously.

I have prepared myself for this course and my future career by achieving excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. I have gained international work experience and learned the importance of understanding other cultures, how to function well under pressure and the values of teamwork. Experience in financial management and my recent promotion to office manager have given me the opportunity to improve my general understanding of a business and management practices.

Generally, I would like to underline that by accepting me for a placement at your university, you would receive a highly ambitious, very hard working and mature student for whom it is most important to be able to study the right course.

I also dont know if it is too short, but I cant see what else I could write that is relevant....

I need help with my letter of motivation for university, could someone please correct my English??? thank you!

For a very long time now I’ve been aware that my future job has to be an international one because ever since I’ve shown a great interest in foreign cultures and languages. During my language studies over two semesters at the Sprachen- und Dolmetscherinstitut München in order to become a translator with the speciality economics, I’ve already collected higher language skills in French and English. While attending this school I had to realize that the specialisation on languages only does not correspond to my ideas of my future. Beyond the usage of foreign languages I’m interested in the cooperation with other people as well as the deepening of further subjects beyond languages. Moreover I later want to have a job in which I’m challenged, in which I’m confronted with new situations and in which I can find new solutions by using my intellect and my creativity. Besides, I would like to save the option of being able to work in various domains, of being able to work together with various people and cultures and of opening up promotion prospects by my own achievements. That’s why I decided to abandon my language studies and start an education in the domain of tourism. I’m someone who likes working in a team, who is motivated , initiative and ambitious and I’m looking forward learning a third foreign language. After studying I would like to work several years abroad, for which I think your practice oriented course of studies of Tourism Management and Leisure Industry , including a semester abroad and with the fact that the courses will be taught in English, which corresponds to my international interest ,I think your university will create a good basis. In conclusion I think that your university offers exactly the education I’m seeking for and I’m willing to work hard to achieve the best

URGENT! It might help you to look at MountainHiker's advice on writing a letter of motivation.

Consider this alternative for paragraph two: "Contemporary society in general, and the European Union in particular, face many fundamental problems. Globalisation, cosmopolitanism, integration: these are the buzzwords of today's society, and it is important for me to gain analytical insight into these processes in order to deal with such problems."

"Being deeply interested in issues related to European integration...." Interested is probably the least interesting word in the English language. Consider this: "Being very excited European integration...."

"...with a promising perspective...." Do you mean to say "promising prospect"?

"I would like to dedicate myself to the promotion of a higher consciousness of European Policies and citizenship...." This is a bit pretentious.

"...I would very much like to be accepted in the Master programme at your Institute." This should be an introduction, not part of the conclusion.
