By Longest words, Vowels

Y is a vowel. Rhythms is not the longest word without a vowel because it DOES have a vowel-- Y. Y rarely acts as a consonant. Let's get our facts straight before we start spouting nonsense. =)

guess the longest word you'll find in the dictionary which contains a single vowel only.

I saw a very long thread about this topic, and I wanted to set the record completely straight. You will notice that I mentioned ENGLISH LANGUAGE in the subject. Unless someone can give us a reliable definition for the extremely long finnish word I believe we should refrain from discussing...

My take on "y" being a vowel or not. In words like way, bay, sway, buy, etc., 'y' is not a vowel.....it is merely an addition to help make the pronunciation of the vowel preceding. If the 'y' in 'rhythm (which has a definite, specific vowel sound attached to it) is not a vowel, are you telling...
