Unfortunately I cannot help In regards to free medical English material. However, I do have a question to ask you. Are you in a position yourself or know any other high quality Doctors in Bulgaria that may wish to work in the UK through a private agency for a 3-6 month period, earning approx £50 per hour? There are certain compliance issues, such as passing the IELTS test and joining the GMC, having insurance valid in the UK and getting on a PCT performers list (which we can give advice on.)
It would be fantastic to hear from you if interested. Our agency is called Capital Group Locums we are looking to mainly supply doctors for out of hours work.

Most of my lessons I have found on the internet and I am quite happy to share these resources with you!

My lesson on orthopedics was very practical in the end. I revised bones and muscles vocabulary and then asked my students to demonstrate with real braces and splints how they would fit and advise these products. I dealt with the ankle, wrist, knee and lumbar area. They liked using real products and enjoyed the lesson! Next lesson I will be teaching phytotherapy ( herbal medecine) and will include lots of lexis and also describing symptoms and different illnesses.

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards

You can order tests directly from UBELT web site. I got two versions, they are fantastic especially the listening which includes a full transcript (but difficult). If you are learning medical English this is a must. Thank-you for your letter. It is always interesting to hear from someone with a similar background or interest. Let me answer some of your questions for you. I want to share with you what I have learned over the years in this business. I hope I can be blunt?

1) You asked: what is the value of these certifications if one is already fluent in english and has taught professionals as part of their professional career? I teach adults at work all the time.
My response: This is a common question for people who want to teach at any an all levels of ESL.
a) Simply being fluent in a language doesn’t make you good at it. Think of all the regional dialects and inner city dialects of English just in the USA alone. I teach medical English in Poland. The school I work at specialises in teaching to nurses (general, scrubs, ICU, midwifery), doctors (GPs), dentists, physios and radiographers. If I can give you a word of advice. Get a CELTA certificate. You will learn how to teach English with a medical context and not make the mistake of reteaching students radiography or any other medical subject. Good luck Chris

Get TESOL certified world-wide with IEERA

The International English Educational Research Association's (IEERA) TESOL Certification Program is an intensive course which provides participants with professional knowledge and skills in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) as well as tools for their own reflection and growth as teachers. So you are the famous Melodie Hull:)
I visited your website and it was very informational. I am a nurse as well and I am considering teaching medical english too.
I am from the US and fluent in English. I trained as a nurse practitioner and also work in clinical research. I have a question about the need to get TESL or any type
of certification. 1) What is the value of these certifications if one is already fluent in english and has taught professionals as part of their professional career? I teach adults at work all the time.
2) If I have a web-based business for international students, do I still need TESL certification if I am not traveling abroad to teach? Thanks!

Medical English Courses, Poland

I am an English language Teacher and a British Registered General Nurse with 15 years experience working in the NHS and around Europe. I am a nurse and originally from Thailand. I moved to UAE for 4 months ago. Would like to work here as nurse but It seems to be difficult for me because I have to take an exam, NCLEX exam. I have no idea about the exam and my english is so terrible, I think.
If you know about this exam, please advice me somethings useful...:-) I have tried to study by my self for several months but but it seems my English isn't getting better at all. They don't have medical English here that I can take, only general English. I feel so bad about my self. Maybe I think I should give up about working as nurse here.
Do you know some good online medical English courses?
Thank you so much
Pat :-)

Re: anybody knows teaching medical english?

Dear Satriyo
I have taught a few overseas trained doctors/nurses/occupational therapists etc, and they are all preparing for their IELTS or OET exam here in Australia, so I know of some tutors who could meet you online and continue to help you - anyway you can contact me privately if you want some more information.
Thanks
