I am confident that the linguistic and educational profile that I acquired as well as a broad literary and artistic culture combined with my knowledge in communication and marketing will be an important asset for my realization in the field of public management. To further prepare myself for the program I completed a 5 month internship at the Community of Pazardjik district, department Education. Thus I gained a valuable practical experience in public policy and I got prepared to assume later a leadership position in public schools or play a district - wide administrative role. This strengthened my leadership skills and motivated me to serve as a catalyst for social and educational changes. Of an exceptional motivation, I strongly imply myself in my academic and professional activities to carry out my objectives. My international experiences attest of my capacity of integration and adaptation. I had the pleasure to meet varied cultures and to affirm my intrapersonal ease. Opened to others, speaking three foreign languages in addition to my Bulgarian mother tongue (French, English, Italian) I have a very strong desire to pursue a career in governement institutions, thus allowing my blooming on the personal level as well as professional.

The ambitions which I have just exposed to you wouldnt be realized without a solid theoretical background and a strong real world experience specialized in the management of different public institutions. Hello , i am new here so i am not sure how it goes but i thought i would give it a try. I am applying for a master's degree in Public Management and i would appreciate some advice about my motivation letter as i am not a native speaker.There are some things to be added alter after i finish my internship but i would be grateful if u can give me some help on the other parts..

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, we are all volunteers. I don't think I want to admit how much time I spend here but for me it is a way to relax. I work for myself from home and I don't have anyone to go and have a coffee break with, so when I want to take a break for ten minutes or so I come over here. It's that or wander away from my office and end up just watching TV for the rest of the day (naughty!). We all come and help out here to varying degrees. Some people can do a lot and others can only help now and then, but it's all appreciated.

We're happy for anyone to have a go at anwering the questions. You'll notice that a lot of the learners will also answer questions and it's a useful exercise for them and it's good that they can help each other. Sometimes we end up with quite a few conflicting answers but eventually it always seems to get sorted out.

Those of us who are regulars or moderators are not all English teachers. In fact I do not know what a couple of the moderators do, we do chat 'back-stage', but not always about our real lives in much detail. However, I believe that one of us is an editor, and I know that two of us are copywriters. It naturally does tend to attract people with a strong interest in language use.

When a really proficient person pops up and starts helping out we all get very excited and we hope they keep visiting regularly. We do our best to encourage these people and keep an eye on them with regards to 'promotions'. As a proficient English user, and editor, you and your 'other perspective' would be very welcome. We certainly wouldn't feel as if you were treading on our toes. We get utterly swamped with posts sometimes and can't answer everybody.

If you really want to make yourself useful, you could look at the letter writing section for us. At this time of year we get many motivation letters to check and it is difficult to keep on top of them all.

Background:

Application for a summer school & its full scholarship. They provide a limited number of scholarships for talented students, to be given primarily to applicants from countries where local scholarship funds are more limited. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic, personal and economic factors.

Here is their requirement for ML:

Letter of motivation(mandatory)

Mention if you are applying for a full or a partial scholarship
Please tell us why this course is important for your academic studies or career and why you should receive a scholarship to *** Summer School.

I am a new user and I found here by chance when I tried to get some guidance of letter writing. I have read a lot of examples together with the comments, as well as the helpful posts of suggestions from MountainHiker. I would like to thank all the members for producing such a great forum. It helped me a lot.

I am now studying in Japan and is going to apply for a job in Switzerland. I have managed to follow the regular suggestions and have modified the letter many times by myself, but since this is my first time to write such a formal letter, I know there is a long way and it needs a lot of modification works. Would you please kindly take a look on my letter and tell me how to improve it?

I am afraid the story is too long, but how to make it looks clear and effective?

I am applying for an entry-level position with your company in Geneva office. The preferred field of employment would be the container transport operation and business management.

I have a Bachelorâs degree in International Shipping Management and a Masterâs degree in Transport Planning and Management both from XXX Maritime University, China. Currently, I am a full-time PhD student of XXX University, Japan. My research topics are container transport network analysis and competition strategies. The expected graduation time is October 2005.

After graduating from high school, I was enrolled by my favorite university: XXX Maritime University, which is one of the best maritime universities in China. During the four years study, I acquired wide and solid knowledge of international shipping management, together with firm foundation of mathematics, economies, laws and statistics. In 1999, as a nominated student, I passed the Masterâs Entrance Exams with top grades and started my further study in the same university and majored in Transportation Planning and Management. The three years study has widened my knowledge about transportation science, besides, I also involved myself in the practical sector works. From 2000 to 2002, I was the teaching assistance of my professor, my concentration and enthusiasm was highly appreciated by both the professor and the students. Due to my good performance, I was selected as one of the three student participants of a research team and took part in a project on human-resource evaluation supported by China XXX Shipping Company, XXX Branch. But first of all you need to read the very top two posts of this section (Letter Writing). Those are very heplful.Write your own letter with the help of those guidelines then post your letter for help.
Every Motivation letter is different for each person according to their need and qualifications.
I hope my suggestions will be helpful for you.

I am the moderator who has been directing a few people to your site. When I am unable/unwilling to provide extensive assistance, I have instead directed them to you.

In the two writing sections (writing world, letter writing), you will note that the top two posts (Post 1, Post 2) deal with requesting assistance. In first post, point number 8 directly says that the posts are open to the world. So be careful what you write. The second post discusses more information about motiviation letters.

If a person is unwilling to have their information shared with the world, there is little we can do for him or her on a go forward basis. We rarely respond by personal e-mail. Unlike you with your paid service, we give of our time and efforts freely. Our hope and aim is that by directly helping one person, we indirectly help many. And when a student needs extensive assistance, I either recommend that they contact you or that they seek other assistance.

Some people have written received a lot of assistance with their motivation letters here and others not so. Having our work available for others to view is, in a way, our payment. As mentioned, our goal is to help as many people as possible.

Post 1 in point 8 openly mentions the privacy issue. Moreover, it ought to be obvious that if you write something in an open forum, it is open.

Personally, I would very much dislike to assist others and then have them request that all the information be removed. That is very unfair to those who have assisted because, in effect, we have then provided very personalized assistance without any renumeration.

In most cases, the information contained within a motivation letter is unique to that individual. While there might be some key phrases etc., I suspect not much will be borrowed or lifted directly. But, for other students, they can benefit being seeing the tone and structure of the letter. That, to them, is very beneficial.

Most often universities request that the letters be written by the students themselves. That to me is where the privacy issue comes into play.

I suspect if this student is very concerned with her post being visible to the world at large, we will delete it. (I have to check with the forum owner.) I don't think we want to make someone uncomfortable. But I also think the request is somewhat unfair to those of us who gave of our time freely in the expectation that we would help others.

So are far as the individual is concerned, if she wants further guidance from English Forums in the future with her homework or whatever, she has to recognize that her homework will be available to the world. We want it to be that way. We want to spread our knowledge as far and wide as possible. If she wants private and discreet assistance, she can contact you or others that provide private assistance.

To bring this note to a close, please leave a message in the appropriate forum where her message was written. Address it to MountainHiker and provide the link or message number where her message is written and someone will delete it.
