It is going to be sort of a career change but not really a complete career change. I'm writing a motivation letter but don't seem to get it right or don't know :( could you please correct this one and give me ideas and feedback about what i should write in? The reason i want to leave my current job is there is no career development for me there and i don't want to loose my skills with no development. same time i don't know how to put that down in the motivation letter

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in regards to ……………position offered at your …………. I am a candidate worthy of consideration. I have an excellent engineering education. I have been on diverse engineering and IT courses that broaden my technical background in a number of fields. I have a track record that clearly demonstrates my qualifications. You will certainly find this clear from my application.

I have the traits required to be a successful ..(consultant or manager depend on job). I can bring along managerial experience from the time I owned my business. I can also bring technical expertise, initiative, hard working, team player, creative but realism thinking, methodological problem solving skills and above all can establish and maintain excellent client relationship.

I am not just looking for a job; I am looking for a company where I can flourish. A continuous mental challenge is a must to stretch my abilities and drives me to thrive. I have the attitude of “do what it takes”. I am looking for a place where career development is well defined. I believe that your company rewards these traits and values.

I would like to thank you in advance for your time and any consideration you may give me. I have written this to the best of my ability. I'm pretty secure about the language part, as I'm bilingual, but it's the culture part that I want to check works. Some stuff I need to put in there, like the reason for the GPA - it's part letter, part appeal. But, this is my question, does it come off as too smarmy, too corny, too vague, disorganized, paragraphs need switching around? I just really liked what Hiker said to some other people n here - I have tried to follow the question checklists s/he posted

This is an online... ookay, off to edit *edits* *returns* ...online college offering a Liberal Arts MA. Fort Hays State University.

And this is my letter:

As an immigrant from Egypt with a BA in English literature, including comparative and cultural studies, a background in consciousness-raising work and gender activism, and a lifelong dream of a career conveying these concepts to others and inspiring them to make a difference, I respectfully seek acceptance at your Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program.

Culture, critical thinking, history, and social analysis have been the most important fields of study (formal and otherwise) in my life for as long as I can remember. My mission since graduation has been to analyze and question accepted ways of doing things, including sexuality, the monolithic nature of official discourse, and the mainstreaming of the Arabic language and Islam while eroding indigenous tongues and other religions in my native Egypt. As an aficionado of historical narrative, especially that of my native region, the Middle East, and a keen observer of the unseen social currents of religious and gender politics, and cultural norms, mores and values, I have devoted myself to exploring what lies beneath the surface and is visible through the 'iceberg' model of culture. To this end, I have read over 150 books on history, culture, religion, politics and sexuality, among others, mostly about Arab culture. I already am teaching Middle Eastern culture and history at a small language school. The reaction I have received has made me eager to become qualified for a better teaching position in the field of culture/comparative studies. There is so much work to be done in this area to make people truly aware! However, I sense that before being qualified to do this, I am in need of a more thorough academic grounding in epistemology, anthropology and the science of critical thinking skills, as well as in the broader areas of culture and human knowledge, including cross-disciplinary studies and research on cultures outside the mainstream. I am confident that these fields are jut what I need to formalize the learning imparted by my sometimes tumultuous social-political personal experience.

While the English Department of Cairo University, where I earned my BA, was a liberal oasis (my majors included Comparative Literature, Civilization and feminist criticism), I later found many of my fellow-Arabs were resistant to a liberal outlook. At that time, the newspapers were abuzz with news of the 'Satanist cult': trumped-up charges (later dismissed by judges as a total fabrication) brought by powerful police officials against American University boys and girls, arrested for wearing black and listening to heavy metal, tortured into confessing crimes they never committed. I became more and more frustrated as people kept telling me, "The newspapers say it; it must be true." For these people, the appearance of difference, and condemnation by the mainstream media, was enough to condemn these unfortunate young people whose only crime had been to assert some individuality and deviate from social norms.

The issue became even more complicated and interesting when a number of Europeans I worked with, in a well-intentioned quest for 'cultural sensitivity', ended up with a prescriptive and restrictive definition of Middle Eastern culture: "No, no, boys shouldn't take Home Economics classes. We understand your culture." I preferred to view norms, mores, and values as separate entities and not succumb to the Orientalist view that, lumped together, unchanging and unchangeable, they constituted a monolithic 'culture'. Some of the other questions I asked myself were: What is collective memory? Can one find a descriptive, rather than prescriptive, model of culture? How far does respect for difference erode the rights of the dissenting individual in a collective culture? These are questions whose answers I hope to seek in your program.

In 2001, my interest in sexual/religious difference took on a more overtly political nature with the Queen Boat case, where 52 gay men were arrested on trumped-up charges of, yes, Satanism. Unable to stand it any longer, I started a campaign to pressure legal organizations to give them representation in court ("But they're fags! Why represent them?") and alert international human rights organizations to the issue. This had some success; however, it became clear that I was next in line for arrest, and finally I sought political asylum in the U.S. Since coming here, I have studied cinema (earning an associate degree with a 3.8 GPA) made a film on the subject, and am currently preparing a documentary on the veil.

In addition to your academic program, which seems to offer a roadmap to the answers for many of my questions, your university is ideal for me in that you offer a course to be taken completely online. This is beyond convenient for me, as I am busy with work and have found that commuting time cuts into my study hours; I would also find it impossible to relocate to Kansas at this time. Also, in an age where education can be, literally, a forbidding expense, my gratitude knows no bounds for your efforts to provide a quality education at a price I can actually afford.

I feel it is pertinent here to mention that, just before the exams of my last year at university, I was among a group of students who were holding a peaceful demonstration against the interference of the secret police in student affairs, including sabotaging student union elections. The secret police pelted us with tear gas grenades and rubber bullets; I was unlucky, and had to be carried out of the university with a broken nose and upper respiratory inflammation. When exam time came round, I was not yet recovered (Egyptian universities base the entire grade on one final exam, not on coursework) but made an effort to come to exams and ultimately managed to pass all my tests. However, while my GPA in previous years was significantly higher, as you can see from my transcript, I was unable to make the minimum 2.5 GPA required for the last 60 hours of undergraduate study. This rather lengthy and tedious explanation precedes, as you may be expecting, an urgent and very heartfelt plea that you not allow this unfortunate occurrence to stand in the way of my chances for learning and the ultimate fulfillment of my life's dream.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your university represents a dream to me, not least thanks to the convenience and cost, which means that the dream is finally within my grasp. It is my dearest hope to become a student at the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program, thereby gaining an invaluable academic grounding and ideological framework and positively influencing others thereby. If accepted, I pledge to apply myself to my studies diligently, and never give you cause to doubt the wisdom if your decision.

Allow me to thank you, again, for considering my application.

Yours sincerely

Re: Shall I write my name and address at the top right side of my Motivation Letter..?

MrPedantic

I'm afraid we are a feckless and idle nation.

MrP

I am applying for a Master program and this is my Motivation Letter. I have to send it already and is
it OK to send it like that?

Please!! I need your help!! I would be very thankful if you read it! I would like to hear your opinions and
comments.

Thank you in advance!

Dear Madam or Sir,

I am hereby applying for the Master of Science in Y program at the X University for the 2008 fall term.

Being a daughter of an entrepreneur who is running an export company
for the past 15 years, my inclination towards business began from an
early age. As a child I often went with my father to his office and
spent hours watching how he was working, talking with colleagues and
negotiating. At the age of sixteen, I began to assist him to deal with
family business and accompanied him in business meetings. These
experiences instilled in me the desire to own and manage my own
business someday and from then on I was determined to place the
education and my future career in the center of my life.

Taking my interest further in my secondary education, I obtained a
qualification in the profession of Organizer of Small and Medium
Business. There have been a number of Management and Economic Exercises
where I have been able to share knowledge, experience, responsibilities
and to gain entrepreneurial and practical business skills. One example
would be my participation in the National Online Competition Virtual
Enterprise of the economic education organization Junior Achievement.
It was a computer-simulated program in which I was a part of a team and
we had to make production and marketing decisions for an imaginary
product, considering a simulated economic situation. During the
simulation, we decided on pricing, the amount to produce, the marketing
budget, capital investment, and research and development spending.
Although we did not win the competition, this program helped me to
understand business, value free enterprise and be workforce ready for
the challenges of the market in Bulgaria as a member of the European
Union. I was also fascinated of how business and commerce work and I
developed a sound interest in economics.

Hence, the prospect of intensifying my knowledge of these fields let me
to the second step – enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in
Economics with specialization in Trade in the Z University. Throughout
my bachelor years I had plenty of opportunities and experiences that
helped me hone my qualities and open my mind to new horizons. Having
participated in many assignments, both independently and as a part of a
team, I feel confident about tackling unfamiliar problems. The project
I worked on, about the bankruptcy of the *** company is one of the
assignments I have applied my quantitative and conceptual skills to
analyze business problems and gave innovative solution ideas. I had to
make an independent research about the cause of the failure, to analyze
the information and to give assumptions about the possible outcomes of
the situation. This project helped me understand the necessity of good
organisation structures, and appreciate the significance of systems
that work well. Due to the project I developed, also the presentation I
made, I was awarded with an excellent mark an exemption from the final
exam. Essentially or Generally, my education thus far has given me
valuable insights into the environment in which companies operate - how
they affect this environment and are affected by it. It also has given
me a certain set of skills, confidence and desire to succeed in my
further education.

I have a work experience, that further enhance my qualifications for
this program. In my work as an administrative assistant in the
Association of Advertising Agencies (AAA) , I participated in the
organisation of six in total National Advertising Forums and Festivals
as a project manager. My work entailed allocating the duties in the
team, coordinating the tasks and controlling the whole event, with
guest, reaching total number from 500 people at the Forums, to 1200 at
the Festival. The running of these events, (handling with a wide range
of problems), has strengthened my organisation and problem-solving
skills. The work at AAA has taught me to communicate effectively, to be
a good team-player and to work accurately under pressure.

My travelings throughout Europe and my participation in the Work and
Travel Program in USA, have enhanced my self-confidence and
independence. My ability to integrate easily in foreign communities has
provided me with the confidence to anticipate and even enjoy challenges
abroad – a capability that could only benefit my future endeavors.

Pursuing a Master’s degree in YY I will be able to fulfill my career
ambitions. My immediate goal after completing my Master program is to
work in the company, established by my father, and help him developing
it further by reaching much greater heights in scope, expanse and
technology. This will allow me to gain enough exposure to the business
and to apply my skills and knowledge in a real working environment. It
will be also a valuable experience, needed to achieve my long-term
career goal - building my own market-leading export company. To
accomplish this goals, however, I must further enhance my learning of
the necessary strategic management issues, which will provide me with a
global perspective, that every manager and entrepreneur mush have. My
education will be a valuable necessity in my plans of moving the
company to the next level.

Moreover, Bulgaria became a member of the European Union and as an EU
country, there is a need of knowledgeable professionals who will assist
the country in handling the requirements of the Union. I would like to
be a part of that process as future entrepreneur and manager of own
company. (Therefore, as a future entrepreneur and manager of my own
export-oriented company, a priority for me is to support to the
national efforts of my country to integrate our economy into the
European and global one. – shall I remove this sentence)

With the graduate degree and the knowledge from your institution I will be able to fully realize my professional goals.

I am confident that I have the necessary combination of
self-motivation, background, personality and academic knowledge to
succeed in the Master’s degree program.
Help me in my Motivation letter

Hi all.I really delighted to see ll peoples helping each other. This
thing encouraged me to ask help and suggestion for my motivation letter
for graduate program.I thank to all in advance..

Letter of Intent

Power Electronics is an enabling
technology, with vast applications in various fields. Some of the more familiar
arenas include Utility Power Conditioning, Electrical Power Conversion, Motor
Control and Servo Actuation. These technologies and
inventions have always fascinated me.
When I was child I would satisfy my curiosity by using batteries, motors
and machines from my electronic toys. For example I used to remove motors from
my cars and robots. I would then put the
ice cream stick on the motor shaft and supply power with battery to make a fan.
I used to light the bulb with battery by using gold leaf instead of using
wires. Therefore I was delighted when I gained admission into my undergraduate
degree which allowed me to build on my talents.

The purpose of
the forthcoming statement is to introduce myself and my achievements, more
importantly, why I want to pursue my further studies in Electrical Power Engineering.
I did my Bachelor’s of Engineering in Industrial Electronics at the Institute
of Industrial Electronics Engineering (IIEE), NED University of Engineering and
Technology, Karachi.
I also joined the SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission of
Pakistan) as a Design Engineer. The work that I am involved in is the design
and development of various power systems which include DC Power Distribution
System, DC to DC conversion and motor drives for different systems. My involvement in these projects has carved my
skills and heightened my understanding of the field of Electrical Engineering. Despite
this I feel the need to build upon my accumulated knowledge for the betterment
of the projects.

My main
motivation for applying to this program is to develop advanced understanding of
Power Systems, operation of interrelated power systems, high voltage technology
and Motor Drives. The vision of research work and jobs in Germany is an
attractive prospect to young engineers and professionals. Where technology is concerned, the country is
very advanced. Many multinational companies
that are behind inventing the most highly intensive technologies in the world
are German. That is my main reason for
choosing Germany
as my place of research.

Furthermore, I
have learned from my friends and the university’s published research activities
that RWTH Aachen University is the
largest university of technology in Germany. Not only that, I believe it is one of the
most renowned institutions in Europe. To me, your department
of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
seems to be one of the best in carrying out research in my chosen field Design and development of high efficiency, reliable and fault tolerant
power systems and motor drives designs are what I aim to learn about at Aachen University.
Study in this area will help me to flourish both academically and practically,
as the nature of my job requires me to know the nuances of the field – the
field which I have strong affinity to.

Also, I have a good understanding
of AC/DC Power Conversion, AC/AC Power Conversion, DC/AC Power Conversion and
DC Motor Drives. I intend to continue exploring these fields, specifically the
field of Motor Drives. I would like to
pursue work on high power motor drives, implementing various advanced power
control schemes through efficient utilization of hardware and software. In particular I would like to concentrate on
the design of power converter topology and the control switching scheme.

With regard
to my preparation for the MS program,
I have a solid base in Power Electronics, Control Engineering, Microprocessor
Implementation and Electrical Machines. I have taken courses in mathematics,
electronic instrumentation, digital design and circuit theory to enhance my
skills. I have also completed number of real projects in the relevant fields.

Finally, I have
been involved in many relevant extra-curricular involvements. I was selected to represent my university in
a National Level Project Competition held at NED in October 2003. Consequently I won 3rd prize. I was also an active IEEE student member and
organised a number of successful seminars, presentations and symposiums.

Completing an MS
with your institution will give me many opportunities in my chosen industry. I hope you will allow me the opportunity of
joining this university. It will
definitely enhance my capabilities through the enjoyable experience of research
work. As well as this, completion of my
chosen program will give me many opportunities in Siemens.

Sheraz Shamim

a National Level Project Competition held at NED in October 2003.

I was born in Baku - the capital city of Azerbaijan on the 26th of September 1989. The nationality of me is Azerbaijani. My parents are interested in study (they are both teachers), therefore they give great importance to my education. After my 6th grade at the state secondary school, I passed the entrance exam of one of the most well-known high schools in my country. Since then, I continued my education studying at Baku “Dede Gorgud” Private Turkish High School. My future profession was very significant for me, so I began to think about my career when I was in earlier grades. For a good career, I know that English is important. Attending to such high school presented me an opportunity to improve my English. At the high school technical subjects, like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, plus, computer science were taught in English. While I was studying at high school I determined some points to reach, so at the 8th grade, I started to prepare getting a place in the national mathematics olympiad team. Eventually, at the 9th grade I was accepted to the team. In May 2005, I was in Almaty (Kazakhstan) to participate in the International Mathematic Project Competition – 2005. It was successful for me, as my project took first place and I got a golden medal. I was not successful only at studies, but also sport is my life’s great part. I’m very interested in football and good at playing table tennis. In 2006, there was a football championship among private high schools and we were awarded gold medals. It’s obvious that the more languages you know, the more successful you are. Besides, fluently speaking in my mother tongue, I know English, Russian, Turkish, and German. Being raised in a bilingual city and in a multicultural environment presented me great chances to enlarge my cultural knowledge and of course, my language ability, too. Russian is considered as a second language in my country, so learning Russian was not hard for me. Almost, most of people know Russian in my country. Turkish is also widespread in our environment and it’s much near to my mother tongue. But German was not easy to learn, as I attended to language course of German Embassy in Baku. During courses I established my basic German knowledge. Now at the university I get German classes as my second foreign language. After 9th, it was time to think about the university I want to study. I was searching something appropriate for me, for my character. During school years, I was communicable and my organizing skill helped me to go forward in most areas. Due to being an organizer of social activities at school, I realized that the best field for my future career is something related to administration. When I graduated from school, I got 668.75 points out of 700 points in the university entrance exam and gained a place in the International Economic Relations faculty of Azerbaijan State Economics University. The exam included Mathematics, Geography, Mother tongue, English, and History of Azerbaijan. Because of getting high point in the exam I get presidential scholarship. This success convinced me getting higher points and serving for my country. But I never wanted to stop on what I achieved, so I was making a plan to endure my education in a respected European university such as University of Maastricht. I was wondering what sector to choose for studying abroad. I have already known that it must be something related to my present faculty (International Economic Relations). Also it must be the sector that I can express myself best and use my all skills. Interest in international economic life and economic news also affected my decision. In addition, my father gives lectures at Azerbaijan State Economic University, so getting some advice from him and listening his lectures, finally, I decided to study International Business at your university, because I found it more suitable for me and for my demands. In conclusion, I would like to state that I like to undertake obligations and work with team spirit. I desire to get new experiences and in my thought, this program is the best way to gain all of it and to discover new ideas. Its international concept enlarges opportunities to interact with different students from various countries on definite subjects, and it is the exact thing I’ve been looking for. I am positive that the University of Maastricht would be an excellent start for a voluntary business career. I thank you for considering my application and I look forward to your response. Sincerely yours,Kamran Huseynzade,

[removed by mods, please don't post your personal contacts]
