Re: stressed/stressed out
I hear "stressed out" more often too, but agree that it is informal. "The wedding preparations are putting a lot of stress on Mary" would be a more formal way to say it. I don't think we use "stressed" by itself very much---it tends to be either "stressed out" or just the noun.Oh my God, I don't...

Re: verbs, nouns....-2
Plan is a verb as well as a noun. I am planning my wedding. She always plans her vacations very carefully. Her vacation plans are very details. Solomon, if you don't mind some advice - don't worry about what part of speech something is. It won't help you talk better or form more natural...

All of your examples are gerunds if we stick to modern terminology. Forget about the terminology verbal noun. It's total garbage! It has many different definitions, depending on the author and when the grammar book was written. _____________ The modern definition is given at...

Re: present vs gift
N2G, as a noun, I find them interchangeable. Birthday gift, birthday present. Wedding gift, wedding present. One situation that uses only gift is a monetary gift to a charity. You refer to that as a gift, not a present.
