Re: passive voice
"I am confused" is not passive voice, it is subject + linking verb + adjectival clause. You could substitute the linking verb with any number of other linking verbs, such as, seem, feel, appear, get, etc.

Re: Best ways to learn irregular verbs
I think language is better learned by real contact with real language than through a quasi-mathematical approach with drills. It seems to me that mistakes are normal in learning, and there is no need to stress students with artificial exercises to master. Personally, I never got a lot out of...

Re: Use of however (Guest:Sam)
Just another quick point, one person has suggested using 'however' surrounded by commas. Being an adverb, there are a number of positions that it can be placed in the clause. If 'however' does not come at the start of the clause, we can insert it elsewhere with commas.E.g....

Re: Subject-verb agreement?
Hi rguy, Welcome to the forums! Thanks for joining us.The number of the verb (plural) is correct. There are two subjects, fulfillment and hunger. If you remove the modifier "in spite of his efforts to avoid prophethood," you'll see it, I'm sure.Best wishes, - A.

Re: "I've been knowing him for years"?
Goodman:- I've never written“I stopped know it” as you claim I have.Again, you used this request to split my paragraph right between thestatement and its "elaboration". Why do you do that? That's inadequate. Look...

Re: Tense mix-up overload
Hi,My doubt concerns the way I've changed the tenses in each sentence. "Nick sat down, thinking about all that had happened, wondering where it would take him, wondering if it made any sense to stay any longer. He took out his cellphone and began dialing a number, even as a million...

Re: in at last vs. at least in
my way."It is wrong to say: It can be done on a number of ways. It can be done after a number of ways. It can be done to a number of ways, etc.If a preposition is required by a verb, changing the verb changes the preposition as well - unless, of course, the new verb requires the same...

Re: Is it OK with these? Please help!
I can't find the e-mail/letter in which Peter mentioned the change the users wanted. Please give it to me. The report does reside at that folder. No. You can't use 'reside' - this verb relates to where a person lives. Also it should be 'in' a folder. Please refer to the...

Hi,Please look at this and tell me if the indefinite article 'a' goes with the third and fourth underlined parts. Is there possible confusion? If yes, how would you resolve it in term of grammar and the sentence structure? Would you say ther article 'a' does not go with any other...
