My interest in media studies dates back to my years at high school when I started to realize how mass media and new means of communication change our everyday lives. I had a chance to observe the huge transformation of the media system in my country. After years of controlled media by a communist government there were the first commercial channels, an advertising upswing and later on the mobile phone and internet explosion. This experience influenced my decision to pursue an undergraduate education in the field.

During my undergraduate studies I had the opportunity to see the wide range of practical journalism and media studies courses. The Media Studies and Journalism programme at the Faculty of Social Studies offered us a chance to explore not only news writing, web page creation and photography but also the course focused on media research techniques, critical media thought, media audiences and media effects. During my studies at the Masarykâs University I realized that I would like to extend my knowledge of media theory and research in the future.

The first opportunity for independent research work was my final thesis. I decided to explore the way in which womanâs glossy magazines represent green goods and green consumerism in general. The experience of designing and conducting the research by myself was one of the most valuable gains from the undergraduate programme. The results of my final thesis were published in a journal specializing in environmental topics.

The Faculty of Social Studies has an excellent reputation for its demanding and up to date courses. With a grade average of 1.67 I was in the top 25% of the students on the course.

As far as my related work experience is concerned I have already had a chance to benefit from the university gained knowledge in the professional field. In 2006 I volunteered for a non-profit Fair Trade organization in Brno. I was responsible for media activities such as press releases and press briefings. Currently Iâm taking part in an internship with the A.B.C company which is one of the biggest producers of medical goods in the Czech Republic. In the position of a Brand Manager trainee I have had a chance to work on advertising campaigns and customer research. It was an excellent opportunity to see the commercial media world from the clientâs point of view which involves all the advertising deals and media lobbying.

In terms of a future career, I see myself either working in media research (commercial or university based) or finding a placement within the advertising business.

Whilst studying for a masterâs degree, I hope to extend my knowledge on subjects such as environmental discourse in media, gender and minority media representation and the impact of new media upon society. I was glad to find out that these topics belong to the research interests of the Centre for Mass Communication Research and some of them are covered in the courses offered. Another reason to take the Masters Programme in Mass Communications at your Department is its long established tradition of media research, wide variety of related learning resources and academics who are involved in the current research in the field. Iâm also attracted by the possibility of studying in the multicultural setting of the University of X.

As stated above, I am committed to pursuing my masterâs degree in Mass Communications. As I am aware of the superb reputation of the Department of Media and Communication I hope you will give me a chance of continuing my studies at your institution.

My interest in bookkeeping dates back to age 14. I was elected as the class treasurer due to my excellent result in mathematics. I had chosen to study science stream when I entered form 4, but my interest in bookkeeping did not ends here. I decided to study accounts subject just to gratify myself. As a result, I managed to score an A in accounts for SPM without joining any account classes in school or even tuition classes.

Back to high school, I started to get involved in treasury work again by being elected as the treasurer of Resource Room Voluntary Service. Part of my position was to keep logs of the financial expenditures and gains and to create financial report for meetings. Fund raising program was one of the society annual activities. I analyzed the past report to plan out strategy and brought it up to the committee meeting. We set up booth during school events such as Sport Day and Award Day to sell T-shirts, key chains and hand held fans with the club logo printed on it. It was a successful fund raising program that funded nearly a thousand besides raising awareness of the public towards the needs of vision problem citizens in my country.

The position as a treasurer sparked my interest for career in accounting. I realized accounting is an exciting field in which to be employed. I will get a deep insight into the economic world by pursuing a degree in accounting. Once I gave up my interest in accounting due to my parentsâ high expectation on me to be a doctor. By seeing how the blind students in my school had worked hard to achieve their goals, I realized that I was a gifted child with normal eye sight and a healthy body, why should I give up my goal just to impress my parents. I strongly agree with Maxwell Maltz that âwe find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve.â

We have also formed a working group to improve studentâs rights and employment prospects in North Cyprus. The working group involves many participants including the office of the President, the Ministry of Education, state planning boards and universities in North Cyprus. The main reason why I am applying for such a scholarship is I am planning to make master in Netherlands which is one of the former-state of European Union, on the topic of European Studies. My strong desire to take a Business-related course in Great Britain began three years ago when I realized I was attracted to this dynamic field of logic and consistent patterns. Having a broad interest in many subject areas, I now seek to become as versatile as I can. Therefore, choosing a Business orientated degree seems to be a logical step for my studies at your University.

My vision for the future began very early, with a background selling newspapers and other things to my
neighbours as a child. However, my real familiarization with Business came later, during summer holidays, when I worked with documentation and contracts as an assistant for a construction company. i wrote so far:

I'm a good candidate because i know i do my best at things that i really like, and i'm a hard worker when i set my mind to it. I have just finished my high schol studies and I'm searching for a good college education, and AUB is the first university in the middle east that will guarantee me perfect education and will open new horizons in the future when searching for a job.

Hi,

I've literally signed up in the last 5 minutes and I know it may be a bit cheeky to ask for help in my first post, but I really am desperate.

I need to finish off with a few lines for my closing statement, so any tips you can give me for that would go down excellent.

Well, I am applying for a law degree at Universities and I'm not sure whether my personal statement is up to scratch. Here it is and I welcome any suggestions/constructive criticism. I appreciate any kind of reply.

I have always been interested in legal comprehension. I'm fascinated by how legalities control every step in life. About 5 years ago I came across a law book which my father had kept. This book prompted me to find out more about the compelling subject. As the years have gone on I've learnt considerably more but I know that there is still a lot to learn.

In A-Level law I have enjoyed studying strict liability, the homicide act and murder cases because these are very intriguing areas, with the complexity of cases and various law's adding to the enjoyment to these sectors of law. I keep up to date with current affairs and I am a frequent reader of various broadsheets. I find it compelling to read about precedents set in law for previous cases and comparing it to more recent ones. I spend two hours a week in a debate class at my local youth center where we argue about controversial topics in world news. I believe this has increased my confidence and allows me to get my viewpoint across to others in a clear and concise manner.

In July 2005 I attended work experience at Vauxhall Motors in Leicester. Here I shadowed administrative staff to learn the in's and out's of the office. What I gathered from this experience was invaluable. I learnt how to manage time to reach strict deadlines and targets by capitalising on existing strengths to my full potential. I improved my communication skills by talking to other staff in a professional manner and I learnt how to conduct myself in meetings. I learnt valuable skills which Iâm already finding useful. Last term I spent two weeks at a solicitors firm. I shadowed a solicitor and I gained knowledge on how to approach people needing legal advice in a professional way.

Academically I am a self motivated student and have a competitive drive therefore I know a law degree would be most suitable and the consequent stepping stone in my ambition to practice law as a career. I am a dedicated and very hardworking student. By going to university I will be able to explore the areas of law that I havenât yet come across. The ability to work in a group and independently is a skill I possess. I am able to carry out extensive research and identify the relevant information. University has a lot to offer, with one of the main ones being the all-encompassing career prospects after the completion of the degree.

After completing my degree I want to become a solicitor. Iâve already researched the career and have clear ideas about where I want to go after I have obtained a degree. I have researched about what a solicitor is expected to do, what qualities a solicitor might have and also information about the sort of salary that a solicitor would get.

Writing articles on the British legal system is a great passion of mine. I have set up a website whereby users can subscribe and receive a weekly newsletter and general information about the legislative process, policing powers, various case law and many other similar topics. I feel that Research in and out of college has helped me set up this website. I am a regular snooker player and I partake in regular voluntary work by teaching basic snooker training to children aged 10-14. Chess is a hobby and I enjoy playing with family. The level-headedness and patience involved has definitely developed my analytical skills.

Then, I am lucky to find this forum, and I post my SoP here with the hope that someone, probably with a same interest, may read with me and point out some flaws in my writing. I am not a native speaker so feel free to correct me.

Objective:

Having had opportunity to do research in both academic and industrial institutions, I have acquired the ability to demonstrate strong professionalism, competence, and interest in flavour chemistry, food structure and sensory analysis. Being prepared for further development, I wish to do a thesis in Food Science at the School of â¦.

Scientific background:

After graduation from âXYZ University of Technologyâ, Country X in Food Technology, I pursued the master in Food Science at XYZ, Country Y. Despite the fact that there were some main subjects I had not the opportunity to learn in Country X such as molecular biology and neurology, my performance on the theoretical examination was very satisfactory. Especially, through my diploma work entitled âInfluence of texture on the release of taste compounds while chewing cheese productsâ [1, 2], I have acquired a good knowledge and technical skills on the release of sodium and saltiness perception during food consumption. This work did lead me into the flavour research, a fascinating area which incorporates different aspects, from food ingredients and structure to their interaction with consumers and finally to understand food choice and acceptance.

With a perspective to strengthen my scientific competences, I challenged myself afterward in an industrial research environment, Research Centre ABC where I have been working on an interdisciplinary applied project entitled âMulti-modal mechanisms of fat perceptionâ as a research assistant. The project aims at understanding the principles and rules governing fat perception and covers studies on psychology, physiology and perceptual aspects. I involved into three out of six research themes of the project, including:

From March 2006 to present, I have been focusing on the third theme, in which I have responsibility to do literature research, propose scientific questions, design and run experiments , and finally to delivery results. Besides, studying on different food models, from simple emulsion, isamulsion (a self-assembly structure), double emulsion to applied products, such as MNPQ sauce and mayonnaise, did give me a good understanding on food structure. In this activity, I have obtained very impressing results on isamulsion that may open some applications in food service and culinary. These findings are going to be patented in May 2007 and a scientific article is also under preparation [7].

Furthermore, I attended many scientific seminars, mini-symposiums frequently organized at Research Centre ABC, training courses (Course A, B, C), and particularly Workshop XYZ 2005 . That really helped me to get a larger view on research of Food Science. Finally, the most precious experiences I have actually gained through my time at Research Centre ABC are communication skills, the ability to manage research activity, a practical and critical mind in doing research.

Target project:

I am highly interested in the project entitled âABCDEFGHIKâ proposed by Dr. SomeOne, aiming to develop and demonstrate advanced technologies that allow up to XYZ% salt reduction in processed foods. With good skills in languages including English and French, strong background that meets the needs of project framework, I am confident to be a strong candidate for the position. Together with this personal statement, I enclosed a detailed proposal for this project.
