How can we use the article "a" in front of words like "hello" and "thank-you" with or without quotation marks? If it has quotation marks around it, I take it as being treated as sort of an uncountable noun, but sometimes, I don't see quotation marks; then, how should I take it, a normal phrase pattern or not-so-normal one?

Can we put the infinite article "a" or "an" in front of any words in quotation marks?

Dear Joe,

A "hello" you said to my sister for her promotion was well received. She expressed her gratitude for your gracious "hello."

But a "let's get to know each other better" wasn't quite receptive. Sorry.

Your friend,

cause I want to study in the United Kingdom. But I always have some
problems in grammar.

So I would like a kind English speaker
correct the big mistakes in the grammar of my sentences (not the
content). I'll be very grateful if you can help me

Thanks a lot !

The topic is : "According to press articles, the US is a more masculine country than France. To what extent do you believe this is true ?"

Through History,
we’ve seen that American people are proud and want to manage the world.
Meanwhile, French people know how to live and they have a more collectivism mentality.
According to several studies, the US
is a more “masculine” country than France. We’re about to study if
this is a reality or not.

1°/ First, we can compare educational values
between these two countries.

The
American people educational values are rather funded on individualism.

Each person
must show his value to be recognized, the merit is more important than the link formed (relationship) with others.
Pupils and students have to be independent, self-confident, their teacher
assists them in work but they don’t give solutions. They also have to be
competitive.

For
instance, intercollegiate sporting events are promoted in American football and
basketball. These competitions attract not only young people but all sport
fans.

In France, educational values are
rather funded on collectivism.

The ties
between people are privileged, it doesn’t matter if a person undergoes many failures his family and
his friends will always support him. Devotion in relationships is essential
because people don’t stand to be alone.

As
students, we’re used to partying several times by week, we enter in student
associations to share our ideals with others and we think that is the victory
of groups which is the more important.

For
example, in soccer games, one player goal
is the equip goal. (but 1 joueur est le but de l’équipe)

According to Geert Hofstede (a press article
writer), these points show that the US
is a more masculine country than France. I think we can reveal there
is another aspect of this topic with gender ideas.

2°/ The power that is a more masculine idea can
be illustrated by American will to possess big things.

Indeed, American
cars are big like 4x4 or pick up, they
like to eat big burgers.

They use an
amazing budget for their movies with many special effects and they often
contain fights like Rambo, Terminator or Rocky. Each time, we have the feeling
that American glory is bet and it’s always American people who win.

Then, American
comics imply heroes with a super strength and a nice physical appearance like
Superman or Hulk.

On the contrary, French culture hires the small
things and products are adapted to family which is a more feminine idea.

There are
small French cars for young people the Twingo, the Clio or the Smart and we’re
used to taking a little break with a small cup of coffee.

In France, there
are often humoristic or romantic movies like movie of the moment “Bienvenue
chez les ch’tis” which is the best French humoristic movie of the year.

We’re also
used to reading comics like “Astérix” or “Tintin” who are not really
superheroes.

As we see through all these examples America owns
more masculine ideas than France and we really saw a gap between these two
mentalities.

            3°/
However, the
feminine culture in France
is limited.

We also
have a competitive policy as we se through a job or college interview. The
selection is tough, there are some oral or written exams and many people are
refused.

The vision
of soccer as a “sweet” sport is far from reality because many players are hurt
during the games.

Furthermore,
there are French action movies like “Les rivières pourpres”, “Nikita” and “Leon”
which compete with American super production.

In my opinion, the association between
masculine culture with men who search for success and power, and feminine
culture with women who look after their family is a stereotype. It tends to
disappear today, women are more and more independent and they can be company’s bosses
or minister.

For
instance, the French company CHANEL is lead by a woman.

To conclude, obviously the US is a more “masculine” culture than France. But in
my view, there isn’t a best culture because self-confidence and relationships
are essential to have a happy live.

We can
wonder if the promotion of power and success could not lead to abuse.

Sincerely,

Re: Correction of an Essay

Hello,

Thanks for your quick answer !

I didn't realise my sentences were so short, I corrected them so I hope it is better now. I added numbers to empasis my main points.

Could you help me to correct my grammar ?

            Through History, we’ve seen that

Religare was launched in Jan 07, been a new entrant it was struggling for a brand visibility in the highly cluttered financial services sector. NAC Advertising was assigned with the task to make Religare a visible and vibrant brand in the marketplace. NAC launched the Religare campaign on the Budget day in 2007. Every retailer, investor waits for the Budget day to make fresh financial / investment decisions. Hence, the launch of Religare campaign on the Budget day was an excellent strategic move. The campaign was launched with multiple innovative activities with a leading business channel to grab the maximum eye balls. The campaign created top of the mind awareness for Regilare brand. Building a strong consumer brand in a highly commoditized product-led market & creating credible brand awareness amongst the target audience in such a short span was no mean feat. Then NAC launched Race campaign, post budget. The objective was to educate the target audience about the product and services Religare offers. Break the rule is the rule of the game, as we know and NAC implemented it successfully. Rather then going in the direction of the wind for smooth sailing NAC went against the wind and accepted the challenge. They asked Religare management to dictate the volume of responses they expect to generate from the campaign. NAC made media and strategy planning with the focus on the volumes of business the campaign targets to generate. This unconventional strategy was designed to grab the maximum chunk of market share and to accelerate the brand growth in the highly competitive financial services industry. The aim was to create not just a effective but also a cost efficient campaign within the allocated budget. A series of TVC, print & radio campaigns were released to create a strong Brand image, complemented with Outdoor for brand identity & brand recall. Since the launch of race campaign Religare market share is growing robustly in what has been an increasingly competitive marketplace. At the time of IPO services launch NAC focused specifically on the outdoor media. Again here they narrowed down to most strategic locations where hoardings were installed to announce the arrival of IPO services by Religare. The strategy was simple & most effective as considerable brand awareness was created with impressive brand recall so rather then flooding whole city with hoardings, NAC pinpointed locations for high visibility with just five to six hoardings. The Race campaign achieved the volumes target set by Religare resulted in an increased customer base, Till date, this year too saw many activities for brand promotion. But not on as larger scale as the previous year because now Religare is one of the leading financial services providers. So the budget for this year was also kept low as compared to the previous year as market penetration has increased dramatically. The focus is to leverage the brand awareness for creating Brand equity. The campaign again evolved around the Budget ’08. ads across all media carried a SMS short code to gauge the impact of the campaign and to create leads. With the rigorous

compose essays in indirect speech.
Please point me to any reference essays that use indirect speech heavily.

Few essays that would require heavy usage of indirect speech are :

1. How do you think school teacher will describe your strengths and weaknesses you to your parents ??

2. How do you think your manager will recommend your promotion to his manager ??

3. How do you think your friends will miss you ??

4. How do you think readers will reach to your article on Iraq War ??

Re: Letter to a newspaper

Dear Sir,

My name is ___ ___ , a PhD candidate from ___________. I am working on the quality of information in pharmaceutical promotion for my PhD thesis. I am aware of a recent article and some discussions on issues in pharmaceutical promotion published in your newspaper. I am very interested to response to the issues as they are related to my research. As this is the first time for me writing a (response or put a word here) to your newspaper, I would be very appreciated if you can provide me with the details of the <STRIKE>requirements</STRIKE> word limits for a letter and article.<STRIKE> such as number of words needed.</STRIKE>

I have prepared a letter with 594 words. As the letter is based on evidence from studies, I believe it is good to provide it with related references. I am not too sure if you do normally publish references. If you do publish, what type of referencing system do you prefer?

Due to the current public awareness about issues in pharmaceutical promotion, I am also interested in <STRIKE>regularly</STRIKE> writing articles regularly on those issues in your newspaper. If the article is published in your newspaper, does the author receive any honorarium?

Letter to a newspaper
