I am the applicant Huangbo, graduating from SHENZHEN POLYTECHNIC with a Diploma degree of City Garden. Driven by my keen interest in business field and in order to scale a higher intellectual height, I would like to apply for the Graduate Certificate in Management with English Language program that the University of Exeter offers.

I always full of passion on what I am interested in, and never stop until the pursue peaks of the field. Moreover, I am good in communicating and organizing. These skills and abilities were given by the experience as a member working in student union in university. There, I had opportunity to communicate kinds of people and organize different activities. Consequently, these give me confident to be a good manager in future, and want to get further education in this area.

Even though I am not a student graduated from management field, but the interest in this area was driven by my part-time job as a promotion manager in an advertising company in the past two years. I was mainly responsible for strategic promotion campaigns for the clients. At the beginning, I was reluctant to join because I doubt, "Why do I need to join in an association in which is not my original study field?" But, as time went on, I found I liked this job, and have developed a solid foundation in teamwork, management, and problem solving skills.

In the company, I was promoted to be a leader in a team within the first eleven months. I am mainly responsible for strategizing promotion campaigns for our clients. I also took responsibility for training new staffs representatives and assessing their performance. I achieved good performance with my team. Two of my most memorable accomplishments were designing a promotion campaign and exploit a new region for my client.

This position has given me the opportunity to interact with companies from all over the world, such as SONY, IBM, and Lenovo, thereby expanded my merchant perspective. This experience provided me with a variety of new skills: managing expenses, marketing, training and managing a sales force, and overseeing all administrative functions. The boss was impressed with my work and asks me to come back when I was graduate.

After finishing a degree with good average grades, I chosen a professional marketing certificate program to gain marketing skills, and then returned to the previous company. However, this time, I found I still lack some essential knowledge in business methods, especially in Financial Management, Human Resource Management, and Marketing Management. Even though I got some experience of this job, but I was not a graduate from business study who was lack of some academic knowledge in this area. Therefore, I planed to get further education of business and finance study in UK. As a non-business study graduate, it is not easy to handle the master study in business area directly. And I found the Management with English Language program provided by Exeter University could be very helpful for me to do some preparation for my master study. Therefore, I am eager to join in the program.

Throughout my life, I have always sought greater intellectual stimulation, and I believe there will be nothing that blocks my pursuit of new theory and knowledge. Furthermore, this program of Exeter will give me the practical experience to complement the thorough academic education I asked for. Particularly, this search has typically entailed abandonment of the familiar to pursue the unknown. With its tutorial system, Exeter will continuously force me to abandon the passive process of absorbing knowledge in favor of the dynamic approach of constantly challenging my tutorâs assumptions. Besides, through my experience as a manager and team-leader, I have confidence that I can complete this program with an excellent achievement. And, in my business pursuits, I will continue to adopt this risk-taking approach and will not rest until I reach my maximum level of accomplishment.

Having a flair for Marketing, I wish to apply for a MA programme in Marketing after completing my BA programme in International Business. Academically, I have always been a very determined and studious individual, hence why I knew that a degree at your university would be the definite next step. The many brilliant representatives of the business community around the world have strengthened that resolve.

Marketing is everywhere as there are always needs to satisfy, exchange to expedite, changing circumstances to monitor and decisions to make. Learning marketing enhances my awareness as a consumer, helps company to generate profits and have a greater sense of well-being, influences the economic growth, and thus helps to improve the quality of our life.

My family has been in business for many years. My curious about Marketing was initialed by an illuminating experience of being asked by my parents to define marketing. A variety of words as âadvertisingâ, âsellingâ, âhypeâ, âconning peopleâ, âtargetingâ, and âpackagingâ came through my head. In reality, marketing encompasses many more activities than I realize and depends on a wealth of formal concepts, processes and models not implied by sound bites just listed. From that moment on, a determination to discover the true meaning of marketing has been leading my academic way towards business.

To prepare myself better for this objective, in 2001 after my graduation from high school, I went to Vaasa Polytechnic University in Finland, with my twelve years basic knowledge and life experience in China, to gain my BA Degree in International Business. I began to consider the ethical demands by the business environment and society; I learned the methodology for seeking and specializing information for writing essays and conducting researches; I was aware of diverse languages and cultures; I was able to perceive the formation of computers, Microsoft software, and networks; I got familiar with laws and regulations regarding business aspects; I was able to record, measure, and report any financial performance of a firm; I had a view of the structure, characteristics and development of national and international economics; I comprehended the method of realizing a functioning business idea by utilizing marketing elements and management skills; and I went through basic concepts on hotel and restaurant business as optional studies.

Relied on wide range of knowledge on business, I was brought into the world of marketing on the theoretical basis through heavy readings on 5Ps of marketing-products, place, promotion, pricing and people; persistent project works and cooperation on the mix of marketing elements and marketing environment; intensive discussions on marketing strategies and marketing planning of companies; further researches on cultural differences, competitions, as well as consumer needs; and my thoroughly analytical final thesis on Consumer Behavior.

In 2004, I worked as an intern for a medical device importing company BAOTE Medical Equipment Co., Ltd CHINA in the Marketing Department. My duties included gathering the information from customersâ feedback about the products, analyzing how it is going on in the market, informing the foreign manufacturers of the result, as well as conducting a marketing research paper for the company. Due to various customer personalities and freight forwarding, I learned to cooperate with different personal connections and governmental issues. Furthermore I was able to learn organizational skills by handling unexpended events and challenges.

Overcoming countless difficulties, precious benefits are derived from my previous experience of oversea study. The interests on reading and traveling reveal my enthusiasm of observations and good perception.

Obviously, as an undergraduate student in business, I have done well. However, motivations from early days and theoretical cognitions on Marketing can not satisfy my thirst for further researches in this field. I consider myself to be well suited to apply for a MA programme at your university and moreover put the theories into practice as a qualified employee for a company. I will understand the latest theories of Marketing combined with strong real world experience that will allow me to develop interesting and significant topics for further study and channel my professional skills into providing unique business solutions.

You can include information on your family, significant persons, places and events in your life, what interests you, etc. You have some leeway with the writing format however overly dramatic or comedic writing including poetry or writing in the 3rd person is not encouraged. After reading your autobiographical essay the reader should be both informed and motivated to find out more about you.

Whenever something bothers me, I write about it. I am a literary explorer who has written for small entrepreneurial newspapers to a weather news channel. I have known I wanted to be a writer at the age of eight. My first journalistic experience occurred in 1996 as an active member of Torontoâs Metro Youth Council. I recorded the minutes of formal meetings and assisted facilitators with interactive youth programs addressing issues affecting youth, global concerns, crime, jobs, affordable education and various training programs. My notes formed the final proposal presented at the Conference of Major Metropolisâ in Tokyo, Japan, in 1996.

For the past twenty years I have spent my summerâs visiting my relatives in New York City and have developed an interest in going to school there. I am attracted to Columbia Universityâs magazine journalism program for its impressive alumni who have worked for major publications including GLAMOUR, Rolling Stones and The New York Times Magazine. Attending the Delacorte lectures given by leading editors in the industry will provide me with the information I need to become a writer and editor in the magazine industry. I am particularly interested in the spring workshops where students get the chance to create their own magazine prototypes from start to finish. Enrollment in Columbiaâs graduate program will also make me eligible for a fellowship in the Columbia Journalism Review.

In the future, I plan to work towards creating my own magazine or assist major publications in providing more of a representative voice that blacks can relate to. I have found that there is a lack of homebred magazines in Canada, that give a face to important issues ranging from health and relationships to finance and business and other issues affecting African Americans and African Canadians today. In my opinion, the Canadian and United States magazine, newspaper and television industries are very different. However, Americaâs media industry features far more diverse media outlets and opportunities for research. My goal is to work in a prestigious news, magazine or broadcast organization where I can bring both a Caribbean-Canadian and American perspective to my work.

Throughout my life, my education and work experiences have fuelled my desire to be involved in a professional media environment. My experience as a freelance writer for print and on-line magazines within Toronto has led to my interest in journalism. In October of 2002, I joined Urban Vibez Magazine, a small urban hip-hop magazine in Toronto. As junior editor in chief I edited and directed the preparation of a their materials for publication.
One of the things I loved most about that job was the occasional argument between my co-workers over an ambiguous statement or questionable comma in the work I edited. The adrenaline of staying on top of deadlines and researching communication news for an upcoming issue is what I crave. Working with a small staff enabled me to work closely with their advertising, circulation and promotion departments, which helped me to understand the intricate details involved in publishing a monthly magazine. Overall, my time spent with Urban Vibez magazine helped me to realize the creative writing role I wanted to pursue in the magazine industry.

My love for being in front of or behind the camera further propelled me to intern for The Weather Network in their Marketing and Communications department in 2004. One of my biggest accomplishments was designing, writing and releasing a seasonal newsletter to The Weather Networks Extreme Weather Team. The outcome of this piece received positive responses from Extreme Weather Team members. Aside from assisting with contests and advertising initiatives, my experience with the Weather Network has reinforced my goal of pursuing Masters degree in magazine journalism so that I may assist behind the lens by writing for media magazines.

In 2001, I started a small job recruiting and resume consulting business in which I prepare my clients resumes and portfolios for todayâs job market. After graduating from high school, I stumbled into a five-week contract position with Ingram Micro, an information technology wholesaler, and quickly excelled to a full time marketing role. My experience at Ingram Micro enabled me to visualize how an Undergraduate degree could enhance my performance, communication skills and develop my craft of creative writing. It also helped in the development of my overall administrative skills. I eventually left Ingram Micro to pursue my Undergraduates degree in Communication Studies and Humanities at York University.

Aside from working part time and putting myself through school, my interests primarily involve freelance writing and the completion of my memoir. I have submitted several articles and opinion pages to print and on-line magazines, local newspapers and community bulletins within Toronto. The articles I have written address a variety of topics including health, relationships and child abuse issues as well cultural events and Internet piracy. I also enjoy reading and collecting magazines, acting and interior design. In addition, I have worked as an extra in the film and television industry in Toronto.

I consider my undergraduate education to be my greatest achievement. I paid for it, I struggled for it and I gave up a great deal of my life for it. I also realize that my educational path is not complete.
