Help with writing a letter to GP's

Hi,

Could I please ask you to review my letter and indicate what needs to be changed in order for this to come across as a letter from a professional. I am professional and qualified in what I do, I am just not so good with words. I am an alternative health practitioner (Ayurveda) and I want to write to all the GP's where I live to introduce myself and let them know what I am doing.

I am writing to introduce my self to you, (my name). I am an Ayurvedic practitioner and have a clinic at ??? medical centre where I see patients for health promotion and wellness, and for improved health. I qualified in 2005 after taking a 3 year degree in Ayurveda at ?? University. I then spent time in India gaining practical experience.

As I am now seeing more and more clients, and some maybe patients of yours, I thought I should advise you of what I am doing.

Ayurveda is the world's oldest scientific system of natural medicine, having its heritage in ancient India. It is formally recognized by the World Health Organisation and is known to be a complete health care system, which emphasizes prevention of disease, as well as promotion of health and longevity.

Ayurveda holds that the primary force in the causation of disease is imbalance resulting from disruption of homeostasis or immunity. Ayurveda does not separate mind from body and places equal importance on mental, emotional, and behavioural factors, which are seen as critical in the development of imbalances, hence disease.

Ayurveda tells us that every creation inclusive of a human being is a model of the universe. In this model, the basic matter and the dynamic forces (Dosha) of the nature determine health and disease, and also determine the medicinal value of any substance (plant and mineral). The Ayurvedic practices, chiefly that of diet, life style, herbal preparation, massage, and meditation, aim to maintain the Dosha equilibrium. Therapy is customised to the individual's constitution (Prakruti). Numerous Ayurvedic medicines (plants in particular) have been tested for their biological and clinical potential using modern validation, and thereby setting an interface with modern medicine.

There have been much research on the viability of Ayurvedic herbs to the cure of diseases like AIDS, Cancer, Tuberculosis etc., these experiments have met with great success. However, my current experience would allow me to refer more seriously ill patients to their GP and/or a more qualified Ayurvedic doctor.

Study Shows Breastfed Kids Score Better on Some IQ Tests

May 5, 2008 -- Breastfeeding may make your kid more intelligent, according to the latest study on the subject.

Exclusive, long-term breastfeeding improves a child's verbal intelligence and other intelligence measures, says researcher Michael S. Kramer, MD, professor of pediatrics, epidemiology and biostatistics at the McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal.

The study was published in the May edition of Archives of General Psychiatry.

Children who were breastfed longer scored higher on average at age 6 1/2 years in verbal intelligence, nonverbal intelligence, and overall intelligence, Kramer finds. Teachers rated them higher in reading and writing than children who weren't breastfed as long or as exclusively.

"Prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding makes kids smarter," Kramer tells WebMD. "I would say as a target for mothers, if they could exclusively breastfeed for three months and continue to breastfeed for some degree for one year, that would be good."

Breastfeeding exclusively [with no formula supplements] for six months would be even better, Kramer says. But he concedes that is difficult for many women, especially if they return to work.

Breastfeeding and IQ: Studying the Data
A host of studies have looked at breastfeeding and IQ. "Most of the studies have found an association between breastfeeding and higher IQ," Kramer tells WebMD. But most have been what scientists call observational studies, with children whose mothers chose to breastfeed compared with those children whose mothers chose not to.

Kramer and others say these studies may be affected by differences in the way moms who breastfeed interact with their children and those who don't.

Kramer and his colleagues looked at almost 14,000 children in Belarus who visited 31 hospitals and clinics there. The participants are part of the large-scale study known as the Promotion of Breastfeeding Intervention Trial (PROBIT). The researchers assigned half to an intervention that encouraged them to breastfeed exclusively long term or to another group that got the usual maternity care and child care.

This approach is considered more feasible and ethical than assigning mothers to breastfeed or bottle-feed.

"Those who got the breastfeeding intervention breastfed longer and more exclusively," Kramer says. The number of mothers still breastfeeding exclusively at three months was seven times higher in the intervention group of mothers -- 43% compared to 6% of those who didn't get the intervention.

Justice awaits another quiet burial

Another case is set to be lost as a âtragedyâ (=a very sad event). But the real misfortune (=very bad luck, or something that happens to you as a result of bad luck) is simply playing itself out yet again (=one more time after many others); a victim of rape may be well on her way to becoming a âdisgracedâ (=to make people stop respecting you or your family, team, etc. by doing something very bad) statistic. Investigations are also unlikely to run their course (=if something runs its course, it continues in the way you expect until it has finished), as merely two days after it was reported, the crime stands eclipsed (=to become more important, powerful, famous etc than someone or something else, so that they are no longer noticed, overshadow) by motives of self promotion and politics.

A newly wed, 18-year old woman from Lodhran in Punjab was raped at the mausoleum (=a large stone building made specially to contain the body of a dead person, or the dead bodies of an important family) of Pakistanâs founder. She went missing on March 15 while on a sightseeing (=when you visit famous or interesting places, especially as tourists) visit to the tomb accompanied by her husband and some 20 relatives. The family had arrived in the metropolis after a visit to Lal Shahbaz Qalandarâs shrine in Sindh and on its return from Abdullah Shah Ghazi (=is considered a patron saint of Karachi and his tomb is located in Karachi), decided to make a stopover (=a short stay somewhere between parts of a journey) at the Quaidâs mausoleum. and has alleged that she was gang-raped by five employees of the mausoleum. The young woman, abducted at gunpoint (=while threatening someone or being threatened with a gun) by two men while she was waiting for her relatives at the gate of the mausoleum, claims that her kidnappers, who were later joined by others, raped her for 36 hours. She was recovered two days later by personnel (=the people who work in a company, organization, or military force) on guard duty at the mausoleummausoleum. The Superintendent of Police, Niaz Khoso, agrees that the rape took place in a storage room in the museum. The police say that they recovered pieces of stained clothing and hair from the site of the crime. Meanwhile, doctors who conducted her medical examination say that she was under the influence of what they suspect were opiates (=a drug that contains opium. Opiates can be used to reduce severe pain and help people to sleep).

On Tuesday, the victim is said to have identified the accused at the office of the resident engineer in charge of workers at the mausoleum. However, the entire picture has now taken an ugly turn as the case seems caught amid a crossfire between the police, WAR (=War Against Rape), PPP representatives and her own family. On one end, her husband has accused the police of shielding her violator, a claim supported by the fact that the accused was initially released as he is said to enjoy the blessings of a minister. But the accused was later arrested and remanded (=to send someone back from a court of law, to wait for their trial) into police custody by a judicial magistrate (=someone, not usually a lawyer, who works as a judge in a local court of law, dealing with less serious crimes).

PPPâs Shehla Raza opened another front (=the area where fighting happens in a war) by jumping into the fray (=an argument or fight) with accusations against WAR of having abducted the victim for personal glory. WAR, on the other hand, asserts that it was attacked âby many members of a religious alliance who surrounded the vehicle and physically assaulted lawyers and a social workerâ. Police now claim that the victim has gone to stay with some relatives in the outskirts (=the parts of a town or city that are furthest from the centre) of the city until medico-legal reports are made available.

Ironically, the crescendo (=People sometimes describe an increase in the intensity of something, or its most intense point, as a crescendo)moth-eaten (=old and in bad condition) system, faces of what is an unsavoury (=unpleasant or morally unacceptable) war for publicity, has drowned the voices of the wounded and this case has begun to reek (=to seem very clearly to have a particular quality or be connected with something bad ) of the same fate as that of the murder of the newly wed NED (=NED university - murdered couple were graduates of NED) couple. The victim may be alive but is not very far from being overwhelmed into silence. She, essentially a victim of a moth-eaten system, faces a lonely, losing battle largely due to the absence of a strengthened medico-legal (=relating to both medicine and law) structure, an independent forensics (=the use of scientfic tests to solve crimes) department and a committed, amply (=sufficient) compensated police force. Justice, therefore, awaits another quiet burial.

While In store I keep on Analysing top 5 brands of a product category. For Example in Fresh Milk & Juices category in Saudi Arabia the key brands are ALMARAI, NADEC, NADA, SAFI. I make weekly/monthly analysis on sales figure and try to find out why ALMARAI is number 1. The answer is ALMARAI BRAND Manager Focuses on high quality product (Core product taste, freshness, design to packing), Promotions (60% shelf space rented of all fresh section, Advertising), Placing/delivering daily by proper Vehicles and huge network of branches in whole Saudia.

Getting one year Masters from ***means becoming a Specialist (or a step towards it). I can put a high price for my services. I will achieve my first objective of âFinancial Growthâ I will be differentiated from my competitors by having Masters from *** University. I already met many Nations in Saudi Arabia and will further learn while living in a new culture. Hello Tanja. Basically, it is too wordy; few registrars will have the patience to wade through all that. I have crossed out unnecessary verbiage that should be deleted, and I have underlined any other (resulting) problem areas. You will have to do more revision to gramatically integrate the result of my deletions.

There is a draft of my motivation statement. I really tried my best. Though I think there are some weaknesses and I need a fresh look to figure them out.

Motivation statement.

At present I am a fourth year student of the Economics Department of the AAA University (Russia), specialized in Application of Mathematical Methods in Economics. I have chosen this area because it calls for new ideas and has an obvious implication in real life. Quantitive Economics is the field I am deeply interested in and I would like to pursue my studies in this direction. This is the main reason I want to participate in the QQQ Master Program.

I think that due to my previous academical experience in AAA University I have acquired sufficient base of knowledge in economics, as well as strong mathematical background, which permits me to satisfy the requirements of QQQ Program. I made progress in studying all the theoretical and practical courses, concentrating my special attention on mathematical modeling, optimization and econometrics. In addition, I felt the lively interest in researching some concrete areas and this experience taught me how to apply economic theory to the actual topical problems. For instance, my 3rd year research project is devoted to the mathematical modeling in monopoly pricing on the telecommunication market; in my Bachelor Degree paper I try to evaluate the impact of infrastructure on the level of economic development in Russian regions.
During my fourth year, I also had the exceptional possibility to take an internship in the well-known international auditing and consulting company âErnst & Youngâ. There is no doubt that I can turn this experience to my advantage. Firstly, I had the opportunity to acquire some new important abilities, which I could use for research in my master dissertation, such as analytical skills that make it possible to analyze considerable amounts of information in the most effective way. Secondly, combining work with study I learned how to manage my time and establish priorities. Finally, the work experience in the international company is precious for my future career.

There is another reason why I want to apply for QQQ Program. I think that unfortunately in Russia there is no concept of economics as a single science, and most of the theoretical and practical approaches are adopted from foreign school of economics. However, for me it is very important to be in centre of the topical scientific activity, feel the latest tendencies and follow the permanent development of economic concepts. Great European traditions in economics as well as its actual scientific work attract me to the BBB University, for instance the possibility to collaborate with eminent professors from several research laboratories such as *** and YYY is of great value too. QQQ Program will also permit me to work in the competitive environment, to share ideas and to establish connections in the scientific and business world.
Besides, I am interested in this program because it meets my general interests in economics and particularly enables me to develop my current research project in macroeconomics and econometrics. For example, I could take a different view of mathematical modeling in macroeconomics because of the courses NNN and MMM. I see another significant advantage of the curriculum â the possibility to choose among numerous elective courses. Thereby I can concentrate my attention on the set of lectures that exactly satisfy my requirements. In addition, during my studies not all the fields were covered although they were interesting for me, such as study of finance, which was rather limited, and that is why I would like to take the course OOO to broaden my horizons in this field.

Obviously, this degree will give a considerable incentive to my professional career. Econometrics, different methods of data estimation and prognostics can be successfully applied in the business environment of today, such as business analytics, forecasting of financial markets, etc. My work experience in a big consulting company gave me a reason to think that there were numerous possibilities for professional development and a great demand for specialists in this area. In this connection, I consider the study at QQQ Program to be a way to extend my knowledge, which is necessary for my successful promotion in this sphere. With my dedication and acquired abilities, it will be the best combination for the achievement of my professional ambitions.

Thus, I believe that my academic background in different areas of economics and mathematics and serious intentions to study and research will be beneficial for my graduate studies.
