Photos from my vacation

Hi guys,

My vacation is coming to an end, so I decided to visit at least one castle near my hometown.
This time I choosed beautiful castle Lysice, which is located maybe 25 km outside of my hometown.
This castle was built at a former place of a medieval fortress. It has got its todays shape from
the 30s of the 18th century when it was reconstructed in Baroque style. The interiors were also
reconstructed in classical style in the beginning of the 19th century. The historically important
interiors are all preserved with original furnishing and rich collections (libraries, gallery, chapel
with little organ). One of the libraries belonged to a very important Austrian writer -
Marie Ebner from Eschenbach, born Dubska, who spent part of her life here and she is also buried here.
The complete reconstruction began in 1967 and in 1972 the castle was opened for public.
In the castle garden you can see for example a beautiful porch (first two photos in row 3),
it is a European rarity! They didn't allow us to make a photos inside of the castle, but I made some
photos outside of the castle, especially in the reconstructed beautiful castle garden. Well, enjoy the
photos, btw I put them at server, where they should stay really long time. So I hope they won't vanish
after one week..:-))

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for your help in answering this question. I'm trying to explain to a non-native English speaker that a certain usage is either incorrect or awkward, but I find myself unable to do so. At this point, I'm just confusing myself in trying to explain it.

So her construction is:

"I like for you to go to my friend's house in three weeks."

My correction would be:

"I would like for you to go to my friend's house in three weeks."

My reasoning is that including the word "would" allows for a better logical continuity of tenses. I have tried to explain this via continuity of verb tense and the nature of the conditional word "would"-- but I am not a grammarian and my explanations are either imprecise or wholly inaccurate. On that note,

1) Is my correction correct?

2) Is there a rule which either supports or refutes this correction?

Motivation letter for a Ph.D.

I have written a draft for a motivation letter, which i'll include in a Ph.D. application.

Because, at the moment, I don't have acces to someone from whom I can get feed back, I'll post it here, and hopefuly someone will be able to read it and comment.

Application for the *** Ph.D. Program

The present letter will explain the reasons why I'm applying to a Ph.D.
degree.

By enrolling on the undergraduate course on Systems and Informatics
Engineering at the *** University, I came in contact with different
paradigms, technics and methodologies for software development.

In the early years of my studies at the university I was a student of
Professor *** which introduced
me to the basis of Formal Methods for software development and verification.

Soon I discovered the interest for Formal Methods, and
got involved in the Grand Challenge in Computer Science initiative.
This experience gave me a taste of what research in Formal Methods is.

Before terminating the under-graduation I entered another challenge like
project, forming a team of students like my self for the ***
contest, under the category of Software Design.
We made it through to the *** finals with a project for a
distributed environment where mobile devices could be used to increment the
contents already available on social data sources like Wikipedia, and others.

Enrolling in the MSc on Informatics at *** was a natural choice in order to
keep working with, and in, Formal Methods,
allowing me to continue the research in the context of the Grand Challenge.
My thesis subject is ***, which includes
building formal models of a informal specification and it's correction
verification.

Under Professor ***'s supervision I have done research on the
possibility to use different tools for different aspects of the formal
development and verification of software.
Which lead to a paper submitted and, presented by me, on the ***
Workshop at the *** symposium.

The contact with researchers from all over the world made me want to keep
doing research on Formal Methods, and push the Grand Challenge initiative
further with my contribution.

In 2007 I was invited to join a development team, as a junior developer, to
design and build an information system for the "*** *** ***" (***).
From November/2007 to May/2008 I worked at the *** facilities together with
domain experts to design and build the software system, while maintaining the
research related with my MSc studies at the university.

I believe that through Formal Methods one can achieve true engineering
concepts for software correction by construction, and that, due to the
overwhelming expansion of software applications, not only critical systems
should be proven safe and correct.

Nowadays software is embedded in almost every system we use, and in most
cases,
the producers os these artifacts not only don't provide warranty, but will
relieve themselves from any obligation with disclaimer notices.

Formalizing software development, as other engineering driven development
communities have done in the past, will give it scientific grounds to hold on,
and probably increase its quality.

I hear it too, and I wish I didn't. It's certainly not correct. "My wife and I are expecting a baby" IS correct; my personal theory is that some people are so unwilling to use what they regard as a prim euphemism they they embrace this ridiculous construction. And "joy" doesn't satisfy me as an explanation either; however eagerly the baby's father may anticipate the birth, it doesn't make him pregnant.

"Three of the women in my book club are pregnant." This is fine.

"My husband and I are pregnant." Well, you see how silly it is.

I've also heard doctor's wives who are not themselves MD's say "when we were in medical school."

(1) What has sensitized me in more recent years from this metaphor is to also say to us that everyone faces storms. Sometimes, those storms come out of huge systems. They may be a tornado or an avalanche or maybe a car accident, when "there is innocence"---no control, vulnerable to the context. No blame, just pain. Other storms come from bad choices, from addictive behaviors.

Is the usage " is to also say to us" ok? No, it's not. Please rephrase. The intended meaning of this phrase, and in fact the meaning of the whole sentence, is not clear. For example, what does it mean to say that something sensitizes someone from a metaphor?

If you wrote this sentence, you need to say it in another way.

(2) And so as I live and move and have my being on the face of this planet, I'm helped with this framework, with this paradigm, to say belief is in everyone's spirit. It's not just belief but it then begins to shape us, drive convictions in. And my appeal as we think about this important subject tonight, is that we not just think about belief, but we do so with a sense of humility, a sense of discernment, a sense of respect and regard for the people who believe differently than we believe or I believe.

Is the sentence construction "not just belief but it then begins to shape us" ok? Please rephrase. Again, the meaning is unclear to me. If you start with 'It's not just belief . . ', I would expect you to continue by telling me what it is, and not with a clause that starts with 'but'.

Say I'm helped by this framework, by this paradigm.

Can a be inserted? Yes, you need to insert it. Please check whether the phrase "in an initial encounter experience response to God." makes sense and kindly rephrase No, don't make a very lengthy phrase like this by simply adding more and more nouns in front as adjectives. People just have to start guessing what you mean. You are the one who knows what you mean, so you are the one who is best equipeed to rephrase it.

Mr. Berdennikov (Russian Federation) Welcome the decision of Chad and Mozambique to conclude safeguards agreements and additional protocols with the Agency, and the decision of Cote dâIvoire to conclude an additional protocol. 52. The Russian Federation supports the strengthening of the Agencyâs verification activities, in particular by extending the application of safeguards agreements and additional protocols, and it is in favour of the universal application of the additional protocol. Thus, on 2 October 2007, President Putin have signed a Federal law on the ratification of the Russian Federationâs additional protocol and, on 16 October 2007, that document have entered into force. He calls on all States party to the NPT which have not yet done so to fulfil their obligations under the NPT and conclude comprehensive safeguards agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and urge them to conclude and bring into force additional protocols. 77. Mr. Berdennikov (Russian Federation) My country have been following Agencyâs monitoring of nuclear facilities in the DPRK pursuant to the initial actions agreement of February 2007 and felt that, for the Agencyâs inspectors to perform their function effectively, appropriate coordination was needed between the Agency and the six-party talks process. 78. I stress the importance of the recently agreed second-phase actions for the implementation of the September 2005 Joint Statement. Work appeared to have commenced on disabling the three nuclear facilities in Yongbyon and was expected to be complete by 31 December 2007. It is also expected that the DPRK will provide a complete and accurate declaration f all its nuclear programmes by the same date. I stress the importance of compliance with safety requirements in that connection. Furthermore, it is to be hoped that, within the framework of the six-party talks, general agreement will be reached on the role that the Agency can and must play above and beyond the verification of the shutdown and sealing of the DPRKâs nuclear facilities. 79. Cooperation between the DPRK and the Agency was essential, as well as the restoration, at the appropriate stage, of that countryâs participation on the Agencyâs work and the application of Agency safeguards in the country. As the international body with the authority to conduct unbiased, reliable and trustworthy verification of the peaceful nature of the nuclear activities of States, the Agency will, of necessity, play an increasing role in the resolution of the Korean nuclear issue. 22. Mr. Hoxha (Albania) Our country has got full confidence in the Agencyâs handling of the Iranian nuclear issue and supports its efforts to resolve it. 23. The Director Generalâs report clearly demonstrated how right the international community have been to treat Iranâs nuclear programme very seriously. Once past nuclear activities have been clarified, Iran must continue to build confidence about the scope and nature of its currentnuclear activities. 24. While resolving outstanding issues on the scope and nature of Iranâs past nuclear activities is a major step towards reaching a politically negotiated solution, further steps are needed, including ratification and implementation for the additional protocol, as call for by the Security Council and the Board of Governors. 25. The Security Council had twice unanimously called on Iran to suspend sensitive nuclear activities, such as its enrichment activities and the building of a heavy water reactor. It is regrettable that the Director General has to conclude again that those demands had not met. Albania is seriously concerned that, contrary to the decisions of the Security Council, Iran had not suspended its enrichment related activities, and that it have continued with the operation of the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant and with the construction and operation of the Fuel Enrichment Plant. A halt in sensitive activities would greatly facilitate ongoing diplomatic efforts. 26.As stated in paragraph 43 of the Director Generalâs report, confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iranâs nuclear programme required that the Agency be able to provide assurances not only regarding declared nuclear material but, equally importantly, regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities, through the implementation of the additional protocol and transparency measures. Like other delegations, Albania urged Iran to implement fully the provisions of its comprehensive safeguards agreement, to ratify and implement the additional protocol and to provide the Agency with all the information and cooperation it requested. 27. We urge Iran to respond to the long-standing requests related to the scope and history of its enrichments programme in a comprehensive and transparent manner so that the work plan could be implemented in full and without delay, providings answers to the secretariatâs questions on all the outstandings issues. 28. Iran must now live up to the requirements of the international community. It should offer full, unreserved transparent and continued proactive cooperation to convince the world of the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme. Thank you, Madame chair
