I would be grateful if someone could check this and give me suggestions about what I should change (correct mistakes). It's really important to me. The letter should contain three main parts: academic background, general reasons fo wanting to participate in the Vulcanus and specific goals with regards to different parts of the programme.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am an undergraduate student of forth year of MSc in “Computer Science” at the Szczecin University of Technology. At the end of the second year of studies I have chosen “Specialized Computer Projecting” as my specialization. The studies gave me knowledge of the most recent computer technologies and the deep view of programming tools (both Hardware and Software languages). The whole third year I spent abroad at the “Hamk University of Applied Science” in Finland as a member of Socrates/Erasmus Program. As well as in Poland, in Finland I have achieved very high grades from all the courses. Last year, I undertook a second studies “Management and Production Engineering” at the Szczecin University of Technology. Simultaneously with my academic career I have been studying three foreign languages both at university and at privet schools: English since primary school becoming now a proficient user of this language, German since high school and last summer I began studying Spanish.

Why Japan? The answer for this question is easy for me. Japan is a world leader in advanced technology and machinery. I have always wanted to visit the country where are placed my favorite companies like Hitachi, Sony, Panasonic, Casio etc. I rate their products highly for innovation and design. Moreover, oriental culture is really fascinating me. I like to spend time with Japanese people that I have got to know in Berlin, eat Japanese food, and talk about Japan. However, I had never occasion to travel to Japan. Why Vulcanus? It is also easy to answer. Vulcanus would give me a chance to go to Japan, feel Japan culture and learn from the bests. I would be honored to be given the opportunity to work in a prestigious company contributing to society with the world's most innovative technology.

I have several specific goals that I would like to achieve from Vulcanus: broaden my knowledge about Japan, develop my professional skills and learn Japanese. Since I was a child I have always wanted to learn to speak one of the Asia languages and it would be nice to communicate with my Japanese friends in their mother language. I believe I would be a perfect fit for the position at Vulcanus. From my point of view, I’m a person who is prepared to face with any problems that can appear during a stay in Japan. I can offer my knowledge and hard-work in order to develop any task assigned to me. I can show my tremendous willingness to solve any technical problem. Moreover, I am flexible and open minded and if it is needed I am able to work alone or as a part of a team.

To be a part of Vulcanus would be the best prize for my previous career. I know that I have a lot to learn from that experience but in exchange I have a lot to offer. Vulcanus can be a key point in my professional future. I am sure that there is nobody more enthusiastic about entering the programme than me. Please don’t hesitate to contact me by e-mail at ***@gmail.com or by phone at (+48)***. Thank you for your time.

Yours sincerely,

For this I need to send in a motivational letter. Can someone take the time to have a look at it and give me some comments?

Second congratulations with this terrific website. I have only found it recently, but am shore it will end up in my all-time favourites

Kind regards and thanks

---------------------------------

To whom it may concern:

I, ***, am currently a student in the *** (Master in ***) programme. I would like to apply for the ‘Master of science in ***’ programme, for the academic year 2006/2007.

My academic background is one first in the practice evolving to theory. I obtained my Bachelor degree in social work in 2005. After this I knew I wanted to go further in to the theory. Having worked (internships) in Finland and South Africa, I saw that industrial relations and social policy could make a large difference in opportunities and changes. This one of the reasons why I am currently writing my dissertation, in order to receive the title of master in comparative European social studies on the influence of trade union ideology on collective industrial relations. In the coming year I want to go further and do further research on social dialogue on EU level (Europeanization of industrial relations) and the European social model, the implementation of the Lisbon strategy.

My field of interests goes however further then the mentioned topics thus far. The decline of trade union membership is a topic much discussed. My interest lays also in this, more specific how trade unions adapt to the end of (which beck et al describe as) the work society; the legitimisation of trade unions in this new world of work.

My foreign internships, the *** programme in the Netherlands helps me to adapt to new circumstances; a condition, which in my opinion vital to fulfil an intensive masters years as the Msc in *** is. To profit fully from the personal learning opportunities provided when studying in a international class. Next to this I consider myself as being a team player, but not hiding for responsibility or own initiative.

My ambitions for doing the Msc in *** are two fold. First I want to grab this opportunity to deepen and enrich my knowledge in industrial relations. Second I want to develop my experience in research and become a fuller researcher. I am convinced that both targets can be reached.

Considering my qualifications, interest and motivation, I very much hope that you will consider me for the Master of Science *** programme.

Yours faithfully,

Students are selected on different criterias with a motivational letter being one of these.

The information I have with regards to writing the letter is as following:

"It is important that your application is well prepared. You should have read enough about the universities, which you have listed as one of you priorities to allow to submit a convincing essay describing your choice of country and institution. The motivational essay should be limited to one A4 page.

You should demonstrate that you have been able to find courses/subjects that are relevant for you personally.

Your arguments will be even more convincing if you can demonstrate how your choice will affect your future career plans."

I have read through some suggestions on this page and found the comments of people very helpfull!

If you have time to comment and help me with my essay I would highly appreciate it.

Cheers
Chris

**********************

I am writing to apply for an exchange semester with the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada.

I graduated in International Marketing and Management in August 2004 from the International Business School Groningen, the Netherlands. During my studies I took part on the dual degree programe and obtained a BA in Management with specialisation in Strategic Management in 2002 from the University of Macau, China. At CBS I am enrolled in the cand.merc.int program; to be precise the Business and Development line.

My personal goals have become much clearer to me over the recent years and this is reflected in my choice of Schulich. I see myself working as a consultant either for businesses and/or governments dealing with international strategic decisions in emerging markets. This perfectly combines my undergraduate studies and my current study program. Schulich is the icing on the cake.

Studying in Canada will equip me with a new academic and cultural perspective. Having studied in Europe and Asia paired with my work experience in Africa already broadened my view but with adding studies in a Northern American university I can consider myself globally educated.

Toronto reflects my international background as it is -by many- seen as the most culturally diversified town in the world. This internationality, which has become part of my life, is also reflected in the school itself. Furthermore, the school is highly reputated throughout the academic, as well as, business world. Since I searched for an international school the fact that the Dean of the Year award went to Schulich in 2004, partly because of the Deans effort to further internationalize, made me even more convinced that Schulich is the best choice for me.

The style of teaching with active student participation, case work and presentations substainialy adds up to my academic experiences. I believe I can tremendously gain from these discussions. Students at Schulich already have business experience, which I can benefit of since I am not yet having executive business experience myself. However, despite the lack of work experience on my side, I do believe I can substantially add to these discussions through my international experience.

The courses I want to take at Schulich add up to my past personal academic record and at the same time deepen my knowledge in the field I want to specialise in. First, the course Strategic Management will enable me to further deepen my knowledge aquired in this field through my studies in China. However, it will substantially add up to this as it is part of an MBA program and mostly reflects the Northern American view on strategey. Second, the economics of regulation and deregulation appeal to me since I do study at CBS about developing economies and in this context regulation and deregulation are even more important. This also applies to my third course choice, global operations and information management. Lastly, International Business Strategy reflects my international outlook and desire to work on international projects.

To sum up I believe I can positively represent CBS at Schulich and add to classes while gaining tremendously myself. Schulich enables me to progress with my personal goals by providing me with a new cultural perspective, its internationality and the highly relevant courses.
