Otherwise, I still appreciate the few threads we had. Is that fair? I am a straight shooter so I am going to open up.

There are two things friends and even family members do not discuss; one is religion and the other one is politics, especially international politics. But somehow, I was drawn into it. You said perhaps your English confused me. Ok, let’s just presume that. You also said : .

<<<>>1. I said Bush and his government is the No.1 terrorist from the point of view of the number of people being killed in the Iraq war, which did not mean Ben Laden is not a terrorist (In fact, I think he is the No. 2). But you thought I could be his supporter. I can not see how this conclusion came into being.

As I stated in my last post, I was a Bush’s supporter but his direction of politics has angered the hell out of me after he started the 2nd term. I supported the liberation of Iraq but I was expecting the troops to come home in 6 months. How naïve I was! Be that as it may, I still thought he was a decent person. However, as time went on, his border policy, his disregard toward to troops and his wimpy and nonchalant attitudes toward the nation’s oil crisis really annoyed me grossly. Be that as it may, how can one compare Bush with Ben Laden? I don’t know what your political and religion believes are and I am afraid to find out. But how can you compare the number of Iraqis killed in the war? You talked like as if you are feeling sypathetic to the poor boys soldiers but you never mentioned a word about the deaths of nearly 4000 US soldiers killed, and the many who although survived but lost their limbs from the RIthis is what I said “ if I didn’t read your previous threads, from the way you referred to Ben Laden, I thought you were a Ben Laden supporter. How you possess this Bush and Ben laden attitudes is a mystery to me. I will be very frank. The air wave is filled with liberal journalists and the world’s best known Media BBX and CNX are controlled by the liberal conglomerates. We only saw on TV how the US troops are dropping bombs into “civilian quarters” which were hideouts for the terrorists. They never showed on their footage the recovering side of Iraq where Sadam Husain has depressed for so long. My point is, many people are slowly being brainwashed by the media and they just don’t know it. I used to watch the big 3 on TV but realizing how twisted the news casts and anchors were, I gave up news because what they give you is not journalism but their interpretation of the world.

<<<>>>2. I said Bush started the war for oil, the poor fight the war for him. The result is the poor devoted their lives and still have to buy oil from the rich controlling oil. I never said anything about the price of oil. And I do not know whether Bush has something to do with the increasing oil PRICE.

I was being a little angry about you interpreting what I said.

In public domain such as this, every word from our thought is subject to scrutiny. You can write what you want but if the readers take it the wrong way, the readers are not to blame but the author. That’s should be understood. From your tone, I did take it that you had a view Bush went to war in Iraq for oil. If it’s not, I apologize, but educate me ,what do you exectly mean by “The result is the poor devoted their lives and still have to buy oil from the rich controlling oil. I never said anything about the price of oil”?

Anyway, I appreacite your reply. I try to be in tune with what is going on around the world stage and sometime it’s upsetting to see the things that are happening around us. Take one for instance. California (along with many states sharing the the borders with Mexico) are on the verge of bankrupcy from the financial burden of the estimated 20 million illegal aliens who used the schools, hospitals, social benefits and welfare systems paid for by the tax payers like me. As a results many hospitals are closed and what is more upsetting is, if I am sick and needed immediate care, I still have to wait but if a an illegal alien ambulanced in to the emergency room for a gun shoot wound from the police, he has the priority over the citizens. And no politicians nor the presidents has done anything about it. Now that I have let some of my steam out, I feel a little better.

Re: Help with converting indirect speech to direct speech

ok this is the whole thing! im very confused with changing this from indirect to direct speech! im not being lazy in trying to help my friend i just want to get it right! it looks like its a report and im not sure of the correct use for direct speech here!

t29. Mr. Berdennikov ( Russian Federation) notes with appreciation the objectivity of the Director General’s report on the Agency’s efforts to implement the work plan on outstanding issues and other matters related to the implementation of the safe guards agreement. He also note that Iran’s cooperation with the Agency in that regard. The positive progress confirms that the Director General’s approach was correct and The Russian Federation fully supports his work in the regard. It was important that all concerns Member States did their utmost efforts to seek resolution of the Iran nuclear issue by peaceful means . 30. The report’s conclusions that the information provided by Iran on its and past P-1 and P-2 centrifuge programmes was consistent with the Agency’s findings were an important component of progress towards resolving the outstanding issues on the Iranian nuclear programme. In that context, the Russian Federation noted also that Iran provides the Agency with the copy of the uranium metal document. In some cases, the work plan was implement ahead the schedule. His delegation expected that it would continue to be implemented in a constructive and cooperative spirit, showing initiative. Ongoing implementation of the agreements between Iran and the Agency is require, and an expansion of the Agency’s verification activities in Iran. 31. The Russian Federation endorse the Director General’s call on Iran to resume application of the additional protocol as soon as possible and to implement the confidence- building measures requested in the relevant Security Council and Board of Governors resolutions, including suspension of all enrichment related activities. That decision is justified because it did not make good economic sense to establish indigenous and expensive nuclear fuel cycle capabilities in States, like Iran, with a low nuclear power plant capacity. Proposals are being examined to establish international cooperation regarding uranium enrichment services on mutually beneficial and economically sound The Russian Federation hope that Iran will consider carefully the options for meeting its own nuclear fuel cycle production needs and make a balanced and logical decision. 51. Mr. Berdennikov (Russian Federation) Welcome the decision of Chad and Mozambique to conclude safeguards agreements and additional protocols with the Agency, and the decision of Cote d’Ivoire to conclude an additional protocol. 52. The Russian Federation supports the strengthening of the Agency’s verification activities, in particular by extending the application of safeguards agreements and additional protocols, and it is in favour of the universal application of the additional protocol. Thus, on 2 October 2007, President Putin have signed a Federal law on the ratification of the Russian Federation’s additional protocol and, on 16 October 2007, that document have entered into force. He calls on all States party to the NPT which have not yet done so to fulfil their obligations under the NPT and conclude comprehensive safeguards agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and urge them to conclude and bring into force additional protocols. 77. Mr. Berdennikov (Russian Federation) My country have been following Agency’s monitoring of nuclear facilities in the DPRK pursuant to the initial actions agreement of February 2007 and felt that, for the Agency’s inspectors to perform their function effectively, appropriate coordination was needed between the Agency and the six-party talks process. 78. I stress the importance of the recently agreed second-phase actions for the implementation of the September 2005 Joint Statement. Work appeared to have commenced on disabling the three nuclear facilities in Yongbyon and was expected to be complete by 31 December 2007. It is also expected that the DPRK will provide a complete and accurate declaration f all its nuclear programmes by the same date. I stress the importance of compliance with safety requirements in that connection. Furthermore, it is to be hoped that, within the framework of the six-party talks, general agreement will be reached on the role that the Agency can and must play above and beyond the verification of the shutdown and sealing of the DPRK’s nuclear facilities. 79. Cooperation between the DPRK and the Agency was essential, as well as the restoration, at the appropriate stage, of that country’s participation on the Agency’s work and the application of Agency safeguards in the country. As the international body with the authority to conduct unbiased, reliable and trustworthy verification of the peaceful nature of the nuclear activities of States, the Agency will, of necessity, play an increasing role in the resolution of the Korean nuclear issue. 22. Mr. Hoxha (Albania) Our country has got full confidence in the Agency’s handling of the Iranian nuclear issue and supports its efforts to resolve it. 23. The Director General’s report clearly demonstrated how right the international community have been to treat Iran’s nuclear programme very seriously. Once past nuclear activities have been clarified, Iran must continue to build confidence about the scope and nature of its currentnuclear activities. 24. While resolving outstanding issues on the scope and nature of Iran’s past nuclear activities is a major step towards reaching a politically negotiated solution, further steps are needed, including ratification and implementation for the additional protocol, as call for by the Security Council and the Board of Governors. 25. The Security Council had twice unanimously called on Iran to suspend sensitive nuclear activities, such as its enrichment activities and the building of a heavy water reactor. It is regrettable that the Director General has to conclude again that those demands had not met. Albania is seriously concerned that, contrary to the decisions of the Security Council, Iran had not suspended its enrichment related activities, and that it have continued with the operation of the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant and with the construction and operation of the Fuel Enrichment Plant. A halt in sensitive activities would greatly facilitate ongoing diplomatic efforts. 26.As stated in paragraph 43 of the Director General’s report, confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme required that the Agency be able to provide assurances not only regarding declared nuclear material but, equally importantly, regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities, through the implementation of the additional protocol and transparency measures. Like other delegations, Albania urged Iran to implement fully the provisions of its comprehensive safeguards agreement, to ratify and implement the additional protocol and to provide the Agency with all the information and cooperation it requested. 27. We urge Iran to respond to the long-standing requests related to the scope and history of its enrichments programme in a comprehensive and transparent manner so that the work plan could be implemented in full and without delay, providings answers to the secretariat’s questions on all the outstandings issues. 28. Iran must now live up to the requirements of the international community. It should offer full, unreserved transparent and continued proactive cooperation to convince the world of the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme. Thank you, Madame chair

Here is my situation. I have
important interview in a couple of days and I have to prepare for it. Last
year, I had new job and I really like that job. Unfortunately, bad things
happened which is out of our control. The company got some financial problems
and they fail to pay our salary in a few months. Due to that reason, I decide
to send my resume and finally this year, I manage to get a new job.

Again, bad things happened. The work
environment here is not as expected. The job scope is out of expertise, I was
given unrelated job, didn’t get enough resource to do a job such as didn’t have
notebook and Internet access. Simple to say, everything is wrong and boring. I
also didn’t have a chance to learn and do the things I like.

Based on that reasons, I decide to
submit my resume again. I really wanted this job and I like the job scope. But
I’m very sure about one thing. They going to ask me

“I saw some pattern pertaining to
your job history. Last year you got a new job and this year you got another
job. And today, you’re looking for another job again. Can you tell me why this
happened? And are you gonna stay here for a long time?”

Here is my draft to answer for that
question.

“Last year, I being offered as a
Consultant and I really like that job. The job scope, environment, I had a
chance to learn a new things, the things that I like most in this career. I
never plan to leave while I worked with this company. Unfortunately, bad things
happened which is out of our control. The company got some financial problems
and they fail to pay our salary for a couple of months. Due to that reasons, I
decide to looking for another job and finally I got this job as a Auditor.

But again, I didn’t get the things
that was being promised while they interview me. I got not resource to do the
job, no internet access, no notebook, and doesn’t have a chance to improve
myself in technical. I have good technical background and suddenly I have to do
the things that doesn’t related to my job.

I’m very sure with your esteemed
established company with a lot of technical expertise there, I’m more than
happy working with them. I’m sure that I can improve and enhance myself
especially in technical expertise and hopefully it can help your company in research
and development”

How about that? And then before I leave
from the interview session, can I say this

“I appreciate the time you took in discussing this opportunity
with me. I am very interested in working for you and look forward to hearing
from you further. Thanks”

Is it the best way to end up the
interview session? Or any better idea so I can get a new job and start a new
life.

Your advice and comment would be
very much appreciated.

Thanks and best regards,

Here is the scenario...

My past client contacted me state that she still interested to appoint me a job
for her company. She also asks me about a couple of documents and my resume.
Unfortunately, I just resigned from my previous employer and now I’m working
somewhere else and might be unable to deliver the job because of time
restriction. I have to concentrate my job here rather than doing free-lance
somewhere else.
However, I’m really interested to do the job as freelancer, but I’m not sure
whether I have a time to do it or not.

So, here is the draft of that email. For your information, I have been working
with her on one project and she said I did very well in that job. When she
found out that I already left from the company, she was quite surprise because
she wants me to do another job for her. She just asked me thru the phone
something like this

Her : “So Hampeh, what can you do to help me. I have a lot
of project and I need your assistant”

Me : “First of all, thanks for the opportunity. Your question
seems really hard to answer since I just worked here and didn’t plan to move
out at this moment. However, I’m ok with any freelance job.”

Her : “Okay, we’ll see what can I do for you. By the way,
can you send me the document ABC. I lost it and cannot ask it from my superior
because she will angry because of this”

Me : “Ok. I’ll find it and send it to you as soon as
possible.

Her : “Hampeh, if you really interested to work with us (I’m
not sure whether she offer me full time or free-lance), can you send your
resume to me.

Me : “Yes, sure”

Here is the first draft of my email to her. Kindly please
check the grammar, wording or whatever you think is suitable.

Dear Lynda,

How are you? Hope all is well with you.

According to our phone conversation this morning, I’m glad
to hear that you are still interested to appoint me to perform the job.
Here are the documents and my resume as requested.

Hopefully we can work again.

Best regards,

Re: day off ?

Monalisatuan wrote:

Dear teachers ,

I would appreciate it very much if you correct me if my translation is not correct:

1/ Christmas falls on Saturday , which is our day off , so we are entitled to (a) have /take Monday off in lieu.(b) have /take Monday off in lieu of Christmas.

2/Christmas falls on Saturday , which is our day off , so we are entitled to have /take Monday off as a compensatory day / as a comp day.

3/ If I work on the National Day , I will have the next day off in lieu

4/If I work on the National Day , I will have the next day off as a compensatory day / as a comp day.

Besides, Are there any other ways to express these ideas ? Please help me.

Thanks and Best regards

:

Monalisatuan,

You don’t need a “space” before a comma. For your question about holidays, there are different ways to express it. In the US, having weekends off is not a given. Many types of work rely on weekends such as restaurants and entertainment businesses. So based on your post, we have to presume you are working in an office or white-collar environment.

If you are normally off on a national holiday and you are asked to work, you will typically get your regular pay plus a “comp” day which you can take off with pre-approval from you superior.

So we can say:

Christmas this year falls on the weekend; so we are given the following Monday off.

Christmas this year falls on a Sat/ Sun which makes it a 3-day weekend.
