I quite agree with Curricula Vitae (being plural) as it is based on the use of a Latin phrase. A possible alternative is "Work History" as we speak English (not Latin) or resume (as point out by another poster).

Also, if you see CV's this is wrong according to contemporary (Australian) use as the apostrophe denotes possessive. Some would argue that the apostrophe is actually correct as it indicates an abbreviation, this was the case in the 70s and 80s (then we used to write 70's and 80's denoting abbreviation), but not in the 2000s.

Beware the dangers of verbosity. I am unfamiliar with the phrase 'fair-traded' but presume it is a word familiar to those in the import-export business..

I am writing about the possibility of obtaining work experience within the ***. Currently, I am studying International Business Administration and International Development. I will begin my diploma thesis for my economic studies next semester and complete the first part of my studies of International Development at the end of this semester. At university, I have gained insight into business affairs and questions of development and gained a clearer understanding of the complex interrelations of globalisation and its consequences.

I am proficient in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and the two operating systems, Windows and Linux. I speak English fluently and have also mastered French and Russian.

I can offer considerable relevant work experience. In July 2006, I completed an internship at *** (an organisation for fair-traded carpets) and helped hold the ** event. I also updated their internal database. In August 2007, I volunteered at *** (an organisation for counselling, education and support for migrant women), where I did office work and vocational counselling of some clients. Please find enclosed the two letters of recommendation.

As studies of International Development concentrate on scientific research and practice, I can be a great support for your team. An internship would provide me with the ideal opportunity to enhance my knowledge in the field of development cooperation and may even provide me with a thesis topic for my diploma.

I have no idea what this would describe about a person. I think perhaps it was written by someone who does not speak English well. I wonder, for example, if they were thinking of the word 'reliability'? When you say someone is a 'liability', it is slang that means the person is useless.

Anyway, I suggest that you shouldn't worry about it. If you are writing a resume, just use phrases about yourself that you understand.

Hi Antonija,

I'm not sure if you realize that you need to include with this 'cover letter' a copy of 'your' resume or CV. The letter should thus just focus on the highlights of your application. You have too many mundane details here. Think about what the employer wants. eg Can she sell? Can she work independently? Can she learn about new products quickly?

I am a new user here. I am not a native speaker of English but can speak English very fluently. I am working as a part-time English teacher here in Japan. The 2 paragraphs written below are from my resume. I want to know if there is any grammatical mistake. I want to learn and use correct English but sometimes very confused. Hmmm, it seems an interesting book. I will definitely read it. I'm pretty sure I can find it in my school library, but give me some time. I'm now trying to finish my Thesis dued in the beginning of September. I'm going crazy right now.

Anyway, I think Education system 's such an interesting topic to talk about. In my country, we donot have to take an oral exam in English (Thank god) :d otherwise it would be a disaster. Thai people donot speak English. In my experience, some of English teachers can't even speak English properly. We kind of focus more on reading and grammar skills. Because of lacking of oral skill, I still remember how frustrated I was when I first came to USA.... You know? A lot of Native speakers go to Thailand to teach just English conversation courses, and carry a bunch of money back home in just a short period of time. How sad...We all have to pay so much to get our kids be able to communicate in English. Especially now, English becomes a part of job requirement. "No english, no good job, dude"

Our compulsory education is until ninth grade; it does not matter how old they are. Each kid could start school at different age because some people can't effort it.

To be able to get good jobs, Thai people, especially in Bangkok(capital), have to have high education. Just having a bachelor's degree is not enough these days; isn't it crazy? Very high competition there. Oh! they have to plus their English skills in the resume' too.

For teachers, I guess, in High school, they're required at least Bachelor's degree. In the University, of course, they have to have higher than that.

What I heard, Spanish people don't speak English, right? Could you please tell me how come you are you so good at it? How do you practice? When I was still in ESL class, I had classmates from Brazil. Their English is so darn good. They did not even need to be in that class. I asked them how they did it. They said they've had to learn in both native language and English since they were kids. That was their education system. I wish it could happen in my country.

All right, I think it's time to go back to my Thesis...

I'm Looking for work as kindergarten english teacher in Beijing

Hi! I've just recently graduated from an exclusive university with a double degree and will soon be leaving for beijing as soon as my application for the language university in beijing is approved (will be enrolling in a mandarin course for one semester). I'm chinese but was born and raised in manila.

In the meantime, I'm looking for a part-time job as an english teacher for kindergarten students in Beijing (I may also consider establishing a career in pre-school teaching in the future). I can speak English fluently as well as basic mandarin and fookien. I can start as soon as september this year.
