Hi. I was wondering if native English speakers ever begin a letter by wishing someone luck/health or something like that? E.g. Can I begin a letter with "First of all, I'd like to send my greetings (is "greeting" OK here?) to your family"?

What does "see past" mean? I checked in some dictionaries but couldn't find it. And what word could be used to finish the sentence (1 word only): "What are you trying ... ?" (meaning: What are you trying to do/ What is your purpose?)

What does "common end" mean? I read somewhere and came across the part "work to a common end".
