I have a problem here with syllable stress.First, how many syllables are in the word "opened"? I guess it's one but the book i have says it's two.And where's the stress in "phoned" or there's no stress at all?

Which is correct : a- Neither of us has anything in common.
b- Neither of us have anything in common.
Sometimes I see that this construction is dealt with as singular and sometimes as plural.

I know that "to have the balls to do something" means "to have the guts to do something". Does "balls" refer to something? is it some kind of vulgar/taboo language?
