So if I want it in passive voice, obviously it is exhausted by...
But the way I'm using the verb there is no object and therefore it has to be in passive voice. Is this correct?

I do see this style, however, by credible authors of fictional books, but I suppose there is more flexibility in this style of writing.
I think an adjective as a free modifier (one spearated by commas from the main clause) can exist afar
