I agree -- "Bananas are my favorite food" is fine. "My favorite food is bananas" is fine. "My favorite food are bananas" -- never in a million years.

Both are fine -- but if the person is already visibly upset, then "please don't be upset" makes more sense.

Just to make it a little more complicated -- you would only use a preposition if "downtown" is being used as an adjective describing part of a city, as opposed to a noun. In other words, you would say
I live downtown.
I'm going

Right you are, Mr. P. We don't say "I'm going to downtown" or "I live in (or at) downtown."
I'm going downtown. I live downtown. Downtown is where all the action is.
Yes, it usually refers to the business
