I'll try to explain this as best I can. To be envious of someone usually means that, not only do you desire some posession or quality which they have but you feel resentment towards that person because they have it. It might be argued that the word jealousy could be used instead of envy in this context, but envy implies that you feel resentment towards the person, besides wishing you had what they have. An example of when the word jealousy should be used is, if I saw a girl flirting with my boyfriend, I would be jealous, not envious, because he's my boyfriend, not hers....

Re: SOME GENERAL QUESTIONS

Your welcome

Re: SOME GENERAL QUESTIONS

Hi Little Cloud. The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English". In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". It is not religion itself that causes wars. Its all to do with the way people reason things out.
We can't forget that Religions have brought good things to us. It was found that just 30 minutes of meditation each day produced higher levels of positive emotion and decreased anxiety and negativity.

Poor Women in a Church by Seamus Heaney

The small wax candles melt to light,
Flicker in marble, reflect bright
Asterisks on brass candlesticks:
At the Virgin’s altar on the right
Blue flames are jerking on wicks.

Old dough-faced women with black shawls
Drawn down tight kneel in the stalls.
Cold yellow candle-tongues, blue flame
Mince and caper as whispered calls
Take wing up to the Holy Name.

Thus each day in the sacred place
They kneel. Golden shrines, altar lace,
Marble columns and cool shadows
Still them . In the gloom you cannot trace
A wrinkle on their beeswax brows .

For people from Eastern countries, it is very much acceptable to take vitamins either way, it is coming up in some Western countries also.

Savvy, I hope you didn't take what I said the wrong way... I didn't mean to sound critical. Its not that I don't find it acceptable to take pills instead, but I have read from a few sources that its more favourable to obtain one's vitamins from natural food, and to me it seems to make a lot of sense. Anyway, either is still better than nothing at all

Re: Savvy

lol

If possible, rather than swallowing vitamin C pills, try eating an orange or two a day. Keep yourself well nourished, drink plenty of water, get some fresh air and excercise regularly. That's the best way to keep your immune system healthy.

Re: Savvy

Savvy, don't put yourself down like that!

Finding the answer to language exercises like this one is always much more straightforward than that.
BUS: PASSENGERS:: (A) flock: birds (B) tanker: liquid (C) envelope: letter (D) bin: coal (E) automobile: gasoline
The primary function of a bus is to transport passengers to its destination. The primary function of a tanker is to transport liquid to its destination. There are teachers here who will help you see your mistakes and give you guidance, but no one is about to do your work for you. You've got to at least give it a try. You'll never learn anything by getting someone else to do your work.
When you come across words you don't understand, try looking them up in a dictionary. If there's anything you still don't understand please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Punk or Ska?

Thanks for your lists everyone A couple of you have mentioned quite a few bands that I've never heard of which is great because its always nice to listen to something new, so thanks
Hi Briana! Welcome to the forums! Thanks for your comments, really kind of you
So, being Italian, you're probably very familiar with Meganoidi and Shandon.... another couple of really good bands.
Wow, that's a lot of school time. In Malta schools only run for around 5-6 hours a day, 5 days a week. And also, Summer holidays are around 3 months, which is quite a lot.

Re: This gave me a giggle

I've thought about it for a while and it seems impossible to come up with an answer that has no contradictions!
The father's baby would be the step-brother of the son, so that would make the father's baby the uncle of of the son's baby. On the other hand, the father is married to the step-daughter of the son, which means that the father's baby would also be the grandchild of the son, making the son's baby the uncle of the father's baby! Its rather confusing, but I'm quite sure that there's no way you can come up with that answer without it having contradictions....

Re: This gave me a giggle

Hey Ayesha

My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy.
   My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad.
For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, ...
