For red vermouth, I prefer Cinzano, hands down. If you cook much, white vermouth is a great all purpose cooking wine highly recommended by Jula Child. Not to metnion a cast feauring Rod Steiger, Orson Welles, Christopher Plummer and Jack Hawkins.
