Hi Cindi how are you? Hope you are doing well now I'm trying to describe "Karo-Kari" hope you will get the idea. “Karo Kari” involves the murder of a female member of family by a relative, because she is thought to have brought dishonor to the family. The mere thought that a woman has contravened the code of “decent behavior” damages honor; and women on whom suspicion has fallen are rarely given the opportunity to defend themselves. This violation of the code of “decent behavior” can be anything such as a woman refusing to enter into an arrange marriage, if she seeks a divorce (even from an abusive husband), if she has relations with a man outside of marriage (sexual or non-sexual), flirting and even if she is the victim of rape. The family members who commit the murder typically go unpunished. Some attempts have been made to curb this heinous crime, such as the bill passed by the government in December of 2004 which made “karo kari” punishable under the same penal provisions as murder. However, that bill is ineffective as according to another Pakistani law, a proven murderer can seek or buy pardon from the victim’s family. Because no alteration has been made to this law and because it is usually a member of family that commits the murder, no one is ever charged with the crime or sentenced. And once such a pardon has been secured, the state has no further writ in the matter. TC good luck for your exams

Hi Cindy sorry for delay because I was busy in office due to closing on June 30, I’m so happy to see your comments about Pakistan, I invite you to visit my country and I bet you would really enjoy it. Let’s come to the topic Women in Pakistan are generally perceived to be confined to their houses in a tightly controlled society. Although the trends are now changing and 53% of total population is now finding avenues to express them and come out the shell. However, there is a marked difference in their lives in urban and rural areas. The Rural Women count for the majority of female population. From daily household routine to joining their men folk in the fields at the time of harvest. However, they generally do not have a share in the income and lack adequate empowerment - but so do most women in the developing countries. Generally the rural women are not only subjected to financial discrimination, but they are also victims of inhuman customs and laws such as Karo Kari and marriage to the Quran to save on the family property to being transferred outside the family. Though, now people are voicing concern about these self proclaimed local laws, much still needs to be done. Vocational and technical training for women tended to increase lately and training schools in non-traditional fields such as electric technology, computer technology, etc. are also increasing. The Urban Women, specially the major cities are more independent, owing to greater exposure to education of their men and impact of media. Now most females find their way to schools, colleges, universities or scholarships abroad. Other than the medicine, which was once considered to be the only profession which women joined, now even the most technical spheres like engineering, architecture, communications and IT. However, medicine remains the most favoured field generally pursued by the women. Today, women in Pakistan hold high ranking positions as the CEOs and executives. Efforts are now at hand to change and uplift the role and status of women in Pakistan . The Women's Division was founded in 1979 as the Women's Division of the Pakistani government Adult literacy rates are 54.8% for men and 25% for women and, especially, the literacy rate of women in rural areas (15%) is less than a third of that of women in urban areas (50%). The importance of women's education has begun to be recognized in recent years and the improvement of girls' enrolment rate in primary education is being stipulated as the most important task of the nation in the Social Action Plan. Any further information you need kindly let me know. TC

thanks Cindy for such an excellent reply. At first I would like to tell you about Pakistan, our country is full of natural beauty specially northern areas like Naran, Kaghan, Sawat, Hamalya these are all beautiful places you can visit web site http://www.itspakistan.net/pakistan/northern-areas.aspx I belongs to Sindh which is a historical place conquered by Muhammad Bin-Qasim in 711 A.D. Currently we are fighting against terrorism few extremist which belongs to Al-Qaida or Taliban are creating porblems for Pakistan as you are well aware that these extremist are not belongs to any country they are just trying to destroy our economy and damaging the reputation of Islam. This is definitly not as good as you have given about your country, but I'm sure this is the only way I can improve. I'll tell Your about your next topic " Role of Women" next time in detail. TC
