Hello everyone!! I will apply for the Korean government scholarship program for graduate school by university track! Since i am not a native English speaker and its my first personal statement i would like to get some honest feedbacks!! Thank you in advance!!

“Education”, said my father,” should be the main guide in your life because only education can lead you to the right future.” High school was the period that I actually understood what he was meaning and started to build my way to my future career. The one course I had in high school helped me to find the area I want to study in higher degrees. The name of the course was “International Relations” which would be my university major. This course inspired me because I felt wiser learning about the world in a wide range and I desired to learn even more. Therefore, my first step would be improving my English skills. Other than English, I also got interested in Korean after joining to a 3 days camp by my friend’s invitation. During the 3 days, I learned the Korean alphabet, ate Korean foods and met Korean people for the first time in my life. What I experienced was very intriguing and I was amazed by this culture and language as I found myself doing research about this country. That was the time I learned about our friendly relations since the Korean war as brother countries and felt closer to the country.

After graduating from high school I got accepted by Kocaeli University to study International Relations. Since the department was 30% English, I had one year mandatory language training. Thus I could continue my researches in both English and Turkish. In my first academic year, I had one of the best experiences of my life by participating in a European Union project with 33 participants from 11 different countries to work on the refugee problem. By participating in this project I improved my problem solving and group management skills. Moreover, it helped me to open up to new ideas, cultures, and experiences and eventually encouraged me to study abroad. Thanks to my high grades and English score, I was given the chance to study in Poland at the Jagiellonian University for one semester. Besides broadening my knowledge and perspective about my major, I also experienced managing my life in a different country. Furthermore, having a Korean roommate helped me to practice my Korean as well.

After all, I was more courageous when I heard that my university has made an agreement with Inha University but it was limited to only one student from each department. I was aware that studying in South Korea would give me a new perspective and a better understanding of world politics as well as would help me to improve my Korean skills. Therefore, I combined my ambition with hard work and became the one student to study at Inha University for the 2019 fall semester. During my studies, I learned a lot about Korean and Northeast Asian Politics which I was not able to learn during my studies in Turkey and Europe. Thus, I finally felt like I am becoming a real International Relations student. Moreover, I really improved my Korean and I will finally take the TOPIK II exam in April 2020. However, one semester was not enough to learn and experience everything. Therefore, with the desire of specializing in Korean and Northeast Asian politics and combining them with my background knowledge, I searched for the graduate degree programs in South Korea and found out about Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Program and considered it as a big opportunity to achieve my goals. Especially, meeting professors with great knowledge and background at Inha University gave me the desire and motivation to further my studies there and benefit more from their knowledge and experiences. I am confident to meet with the real aim of the GKS program and eager to learn more about South Korea’s developed social order, rich culture, advanced education system and technology.
