#1 Through his death, Christ atoned for the sins of Man - he made amends for Man's sins and thereby cleansed Man.
#2 A conversion from one thing to another that is individual to a person.
#3 You are getting into very deep waters here. In many religions, rituals are almost more important than the understanding of the philosphy and teachings of the religion. In evangelical Christianity, preaching the gospel [teaching what the gospel says] carries more importance than rituals in services.
My goodness, Jackson! You don't seem to be making heads or tails of this one!
1. to atone - to make restitution; to pay for what harm has been done
atoning death - dying in order to pay for harm done
faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ - belief that Jesus Christ died as a means of paying for all the sins of mankind. (In Christian beliefs, mankind is sinful and needs to be saved from his sinfulness. Jesus is said to have saved mankind by dying -- actually, by being executed.)

2. personal conversion - the statement of an individual that he has the belief in question (regarding Jesus and his death), that he has achieved a sort of enlightenment or realization that it is true. I think the 'conversion' is generally regarded as the change from unbelief to belief, but my knowledge of these things is a bit limited.

3. I assume you know what importance is. preachingis the spreading of the message of these beliefs, particularly when a single person (the preacher) stands before large groups of people and argues for and proclaims the truth of the aforementioned beliefs, often through discussions and explanations of the Christian Bible. ritual is symbolic ceremony, for example the saying of traditional prayers, religious processions, the blessing of people and things, and so on. A ritual is a particular ceremony that is repeated on certain occasions -- there can be a ritual for Christmas, a ritual for Easter, a wedding ritual, a funeral ritual, and so on. The evangelical approach, according to this definition you are trying to understand, says that preaching is more important than ritual.

And thanks a lot for the help. By the way, I do know what importanceis.Emotion: wink

I thought that individual and person meant the same. What are you saying, Feebs? The noun "individual" can mean the same as person. The adjective "individual" means given to or relating to a single, separate person or thing. I used it in the adjectival form.

You said, carries more importance than rituals in services. What does the expression rituals in services mean? In the Christian churches, there are services [ceremonies] of various kinds. Some of these have a great deal of ritual. Evangelical services avoid rituals
