Hi, all.

Can you please tell me which one of the following is correct:

- F2 is the functional key on the key pad.

- F2 is the keyboard shortcut key.

Second sentence!

Esc 2 means that you press Esc and then 2.

Esc 2 means that you press Esc and then press 2.

Thanks for your help

regards

Hi Chaya, and welcome to English Forums!

Your first question seems more like a computer question than a language question. All the 'F' keys to my knowledge are called 'function keys', so I would write:

'F2 is a function key on the keyboard'. I suppose that they are all shortcut keys as well, in that they save your entering commands of one kind or another, but actually, I don't use any of them! Note however that since there are 12 of them, the indefinite article 'a' is necessary in both sentences.

In your second question, it would be clearer if you wrote it out completely:

'Esc 2 means that you press Esc and then press 2'.

However, the other sentence also says the same thing in correct English.
