i 'm not sure if i found the wrong place to post my question. but, since we have so many honorable educators here, i really hope ya ll help me out. the question is about writing an essay based on material. but i have no clue at all what the material is talking about.

ok here's the material ,
Have you ever walked through the aisles of a warehouse store like Costco or Sam’s Club and wondered who would buy a jar of mustard a foot and a half tall? We’ve bought it, but it didn’t stop us from wondering about other things, like absurd eating contests, impulse buys, excess, unimagined uses for mustard, storage, preservatives, notions of bigness...and dozens of other ideas both silly and serious.

request: Write an essay somehow inspired by super-huge mustard.

so whats it all about? how to write this kinda essay? what should i write about? from the material what ya got inspired?
Think about the large-sized quantities of different foods that are sold these days-- giant sizes of many products in the warehouse stores, giant-sized hamburgers and soft drinks at the fast food restaurants, etc. What does that tell you about your society, and the psychology of the consumers and the merchandisers? Write about that.

Good luck.
thanks, thanks a lot, Mod. it really help.
so, could i say economy is booming, city life's tempo is fast, and obesity somewhat results from it, ect?
if i get it right, then i understand why the author tells us "dozens of other ideas both silly and serious", and the psychology of the consumers and the merchandisers.
but if i don't , could you please help me explain it in detail?
Students: We have free audio pronunciation exercises.
Just don't wander too far from the theme, which is 'bigness'. Obesity can certainly be discussed as an unfortunate result. If you can connect the thriving economy and life in the fast lane to the 'silly and serious' phenomena of over-generous portions of food and other products-- packages of 50 rolls of toilet paper, hotdog-eating contests, etc.-- then do so.

You are presented with an example of the phenomenon (a giant jar of mustard). Your assignment is to develop an essay which describes/explains its causes and effects. Why did American society develop this love affair with bigness, what have been the results, and where will it all lead?
ohh thank you Mr Micawber. now i see what the author is trying to imply? but what causes America's love affair with bigness? i still have no clue.
I don't know either, and I am one, Jeff. Big country? Big money? Big dreams? That's what the teacher wants you to do-- use your inspiration to find a possible answer.
Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
hehe i see. thanks anyway
