Your misspelling of input is most like the result of an oral phenomenon known as "assimilation", where a sound changes because of its proximity to another sound. The 'p' is pronounced with the lips closed, so the 'n' changes to a close-lipped 'm' by the speaker. Very common phenomenon and in this case affects the spelling of a phonetic speller.

I also realize that [at least on an AE typewriter] the 'm' and 'n' are next to each other, so this may be a typo rather than a linguistic topic.

Hello Chariot,

You can type just 'a touch of' (without the single quotation marks, of course) and voila!

a touch of style, a touch of class, a touch of evil, a touch of feminity, a touch of greatness etc

Thank you both.

I wonder if I can find a website where there is a list of sentences where "a touch of..." is used instead of it appearing in individual websites.
