Hi! The underlined are both adjectives aren't they? Thanks, Fulvio

1. How come there are so many absent students today?

2. How come so many students are absent today?

3. They are often absent from class.

When you say 'absent students', you're using an attributive adjective (or using an adjective attributively).
When you say the students 'are absent', you're using a predicative adjective (or using an adjective predicatively).

Nevertheless, all of your examples have the adjective 'absent'.

yellowstarstruck3. They are often absent from class.

Regarding the last word, you could use that or the word school.
