I have a sentence here and it ends with them. However, them seems a little lame and inappropriate. Does anyone have any suggestions?

"Mary Warren and the prosecution accused Sarah Good of sending out her spirit and choking them.''

I'd like to say "the prosecution", but i'd be repeating myself.

Are you quite sure you understood the directions correctly? I can understand a teacher not wanting you to use "I" or "you" in a report, but to not allow a third-person pronoun would be very odd.

If that is actually what was said, then your only solution is to use other nouns. Let's say you're doing a report on the Lenape tribe. You would have to say things like "Early settlers quickly set up trade with these native Americans" instead of "with them," or repeat "the Lenapes" over and over.

But before you do that, confirm that your teacher doesn't want they/them/their instead of not wanting I/me/my and you/your.

If so, you will have to find a few nouns to refer to the subject.

'Them' is an object pronoun designed to do just exactly what you are doing here, avoiding being repetitious. I don't see anything lame about it.
