Hi AlpheccaStars,

This is not actually my homework. I just came across this question on my mind while writing a post here.

I'm thinking of using the plural forms "them" and "those" because of two referants: clarification and assistance. However, I do not know which is better between these two and their difference.

On the other hand, I think the singular forms "it" and "that" are also possible because what is really appreciated is the response which includes the clarification and assistance. Again, if these are the answers, what is the difference between "it" and "that" in the sentence?

Also, which would be most natural?

Thank you in anticipation of your response.
Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
A. The most natural is "it" - That refers to the combined action of "clarification and assistance". - It's like "I appreciate your help."

The next choice is:

C. Thank you for your clarification and assistance. I appreciate that.
I interpret this as more general:

I appreciate that you took the time and effort to assist me.
Thank you very much. I see "it" is the most natural.
AlpheccaStarsThat refers to the combined action of "clarification and assistance".
How is "it" different from "that" in the sentence if "that" refers to the combined action of "clarification and assistance"?
It is just more commonly expressed this way.
