Hi, can anyone help explain the grammatical point for the following sentence?

I appreciate your making the effort to come.

Why does it use "appreciate"+"your (possessive)"+"making (gerund)" + effort (noun)"? What grammatical point is it? Are there other similar examples?

Thanks in advance for the help.

What about " i appreciate(tell)...the news

I want to ask about the sentence:"i can still remember my father's teaching me to play chess. "

What is this grammar structure? Do we have to use" possessive adj +ing-v" for all verbs in formal texts or this is restricted in some circumstances .Can you give me a few structure like this, please?

Have you read and understood all the posts in this thread?

There has been quite a lot of discussion about these points in the posts above. Why not try to read them again and then see if you still have questions?
