Hi,

Should I use "art capital" or "arts capital" of a country if the place in question embraces several disciplines--the visual arts, music, literature, and so on? I prefer "arts" but most sites about the place say "art." Is it always "art capital"?

Thanks,

Grace

Hi Grace,

I usually chicken out and say something like "Paris is the artistic capital of France and Lyon is the gastronomic heart of the country" because I never know which is correct - art or arts. It makes sense to me that if a certain city is the center of several types of art, then arts would work.

Thanks, John! That helps a lot.

Haha, I forgot to use my username again. I'll try to stick to it so as not to confuse people.
