You can use:

(a) He was happy because he had a baby girl.
(b) He was happy because he had a sister.
(c) He is happy because he has a baby.
(a) He was happy because he had a baby girl.
He was happy because he got a baby girl - he didn't have a baby girl, his wife or girlfriend did. It is impossible for him to hava a baby!
(c) He is happy because he has a baby.
He is happy because he has got a baby

So when you say to a man "Do you have any children?" he should say "Yes, about 11 years ago I got a girl and about 9 years ago I got a boy" instead of "Yes, I have a girl who's 11 and a boy who's 9."

In fact, when a new baby is born, it's common to hear the father say something like "We just had a girl." Presumably he played a part in the proceedings somewhere along the line.

Yes - we had a girl is fine because it includes the female
But for a man to say I had a girl/baby is impossible
About 11 years we had a girl and 9 years ago we had a boy is fine too

He had a baby girl = he had (got) a baby girl
The sense of to have got - to possess
To have a baby = to give birth
Consider this
To a woman:
How many children have you had? = given birth to?

To a man
How many children do you have? = have you got?
It is impossible for a man to give birth to a baby, certainly. It's not impossible for a man to "have" a baby.

I repsectfully suggest that you be a little more certain about how native speakers express these ideas before you correct them.

EDIT: You posted again while I was typing. I would never, EVER ask a woman "How many children have you had?" No one asks about how many children a woman has given birth to. Families are created in other ways through child birth, and it's a completely unnatural question. You could ask either a man OR a woman "Do you have any children" (or if they have already mentioned at least one child) "How many children to you have?")

He was happy because now they had a little girl. -- This would be a good way to write the first sentence, Vincent.
