Could you teach me about "be in shape" usage?

Can you use it for not only the physical condition but also

the condition of machinery or a company's management ?

Being in shape can be used for machines and for people. In machinery, it just means that it is working as it is supposed to. With people, it means healthy appearance, height/weight proportionate, look good in a swimsuit, etc.

People say that I am out of shape, but I maintain that "round" is a shape.

The phrase is also used to mean being/not being fit.
I'm out of shape - I'm not fit - I'm out of condition
I must get in shape - I must get fit - I must get in condition
