Hi guys! This homework is due tomorrow and I would really like you to correct my mistakes. Please tell me as well if there is anything that is not neccesarily wrong but sounds odd or a native speaker would never say. Thank you in advance!! Emotion: smile

Jess between Beckham and Guru Nanak - Which role do Beckham and Guru Nanak play in the last scene?

In the last scene the director makes clear that now eventually Guru Nanak has thoroughly taken over Beckham’s part in Jesminda’s life, which was suggested earlier and is thus only the last step in the mental change she underwent. The picture Jess is given by her mum is symbolic of Guru Nanak’s importance for Jess in her life – it is him she relies upon and looks up to. Guru Nanak is actually even more than a mere idol, as Beckham used to be her idol, but in a way the supporting pillar of her life.In addition the fact that Beckham’s appearance at the airport is worth no more than a short glimpse, while she would have been close to a nervous breakdown a few weeks before, underlines that he means nothing to her anymore – he is only a good football player whom she admires for his skills if at all.

How again does Mr. Bamrah turn out to be a round character?

Characteristic of a “round” character is his development throughout the play, film or whatever, while a “flat” character does not change at all. Therefore we absolutely must call Mr. Bamrah a “round” character, as he, too, is against Jess having an english boy friend at first, but then in the last scene anticipates that Joe and Jess are going to kiss each other and wiseley tuns his wife’s head aside so that she cannot see it. He knows perfectly well Jesminda’s mother would not /fancy it too much/be fond of it.So it is quite obvious that he does not disapprove of such a relationship anymore, in almost the same manner as he was the first who did not disapprove of her “football career” and even encouraged her to leave her sister’s wedding. I got the impression he learnt from his own mistakes and does not want to see his daughter suffering the same way he did.
