I’m new here so go easy on me
This topic came up in a family conversation about 6 months ago, and I can’t get my head around what the correct way to form this sentence is. To me, both ways are wrong!
Ok, I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. The sister is the eldest, and then it’s my elder brother, then me, and finally my younger brother.
Now, that’s a nice family. But what am I to my elder brother? I’m younger than him, but of his 2 brothers, I’m the elder. So am I his elder brother? ‘Eldest brother’ sounds equally wrong as there’s only 2 brothers….
Maybe these sentences will help.
You have an older brother, Jack, and a younger brother, Sam.
You, Fred, are the middle brother in the family.
Jack has two younger brothers. He is the oldest male in the family.
Sam is the youngest child in the family.
Your sister Maggie is the oldest sibling.
