Hi

Does "bottle off" may mean to chicken out (bottle out), to get scared and back off. Or maybe it means that somebody had a bad start.

We were warned by the promoter that the last opening act had been bottled off, Tom Petty receiving one beer bottle to the forehead......

Or: But in fact the support act would walk out and be bottled off, I thought that's a mistake......

It means that in some venues, the audience throws beer bottles (empty if the band is lucky!) at the performing band if they are not enjoying the performance. The point is to make them leave the stage. One band had to leave - Tom Petty was hit on the head by a beer bottle.

This isn't an ordinary expression, though, right? They're taking the common expression "booed off" and playing with it?
