I'm a Spanish girl. In my country there's a well-kown practice called "Bullfighting". They call it "art", "culture" and lots of other wonderful and good-sounding words which has nothing to do with the fact. There is the bullfighter, who is nothing but a killer, although some people insist on calling him "a hero". But why?? I can't see where the honour is on killing bulls, do you see it?? The poor animal has to bear the pain of being humiliated because there's a long way until the "hero" puts it out of its pain.
Bullfighting is a crime. But lots of tourists love to come to Spain to enjoy this torture and I think they don't realize how horrible it is.
Let's be critic. Torturing animals is a crime.
What do you think about it?

I totally agree with you LuUu21. If I ever go to Spain, you can be sure that I will never ever go to bullfighting. I think it is disgusting and nothing to do with culture.. well, I hope not! I cannot understand how a humanbeing can enjoy watching some animal's painful death. I do think it is a crime and this practise should become history.
I do not approve of bullfighting, but I think it is only slightly worse than killing animals for food.

Without taking any sides in this discussion, why is fighting a bull only slightly worse than killing it to eat i? {And the bulls killed in the ring are subsequently butchered and eaten anyhow).
The difference is: You are needy and you have to kill animal and eat it. And you do this properly, I mean that you don't do it in front of hundreds of people watching eagerly and with that funny clothes. I mean you don't turn this killing thing into a show. Also in Bullfighting, you are not in a needy situation. You humiliate that poor animal all of that minutes and kill it slowly.. One sword by one sword (or whatever that thing is called). People watching applausing and screaming (Oh, what a show! Fantastic!). Can you see the difference? Consequences may be the same (both animal will be dead), but the process and reasons should be considered. Hope I could explain what I meant.
That's true. It is the most important difference. Although there are some other differences that should be taken into account too. First of all when you kill animals to turn them into meal you don't do it as it was an exploit. And in bullfighting, it's not just the bull who suffers pain, also the horses that take part in the show.

I have never liked bullfighting (Corrida? Is it the proper name of it?). I've always asked myself questions such as how people can be so heartless to enjoy killing animals? To get some positive feelings from that? I wouldn't ever like to be a spectator of bullfighting.

LuUu21, I'm glad to know that some Spanish people share this point of view too, that not all of them are adherents of that kind of 'culture'...
Yes, "corrida de toros" is the proper name. Thank you for your replies!! And Ruslana, although it sounds unbelievable there are loads of Spanish people who don't like bullfighting, but it's true that many more enjoy this crime.
Thanks again Emotion: big smile
