In many societies, elderly people often live in retirement homes. This is not appropriate because families should always care for their aging members.

Do you agree?

Nowadays, the improvement of medical science extends life of human magnificently. Individual is able to live longer and healthily. However, as people grow older, another issue has raised. Should families care for their elder members or should they arrange the elders in retirement homes?

In modern society, young people are busy building their own life. They often do not have time to take good care of the elders. It is not unusual to hear the elders being neglected. Retirement homes have the benefit of having professional staffs to look after the elders round the clock. They have the suitable environment and equipments. Elders are able to make friends of contemporaries. And the activities they hold for elders usually have the effect of detain them from getting Alzheimer kind of diseases.

Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, I come from a notion that taking care of aging parents is an obligation. Parents raise children; provide the life their children need. When they grow older, they deserve to be taken care of by their offspring. Furthermore, looking after aging parents is a great pleasure since it means the parents are well alive. Not all the people are fortune enough of having both parents alive during the life of their time. People often regret of not saying “I love you” to the love ones until after they died of tragedy or suddenly.

Generally, placing the elders in retirement homes are acceptable as long as the young ones have spend certain amount of time visit them. But I believe no matter how well equipped a retirement home is, nothing can compare with the warmth of home full of loving family and laughter.

Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, I come from a notion that taking care of aging parents is an obligation. Parents strive to provide a calm life for children in return for their moral obligation to protect them as they reach the pension age. Furthermore, looking after aging parents is a great pleasure since it means the parents are well alive. Not all the people are fortune enough of having both parents alive during the life of their time. Generally, I believe it does not matter how well the retirement homes are equipped, they can not be compared with the affection of families.
Thank you.
