I have written the following sentence "To the extent that the characteristics of forest may differ among primary, secondary, logged or agro- forests, so does a species ability to exploit these environments." Is it okay to use the hyphen this way? Agroforest is one word. The rest are just types of forest. I.e. I am talking about four distinct habitats 1) primary forests, 2) secondary forests, 3) logged forests and 4) agroforests. I just don't know how to string them all together.

Thanks

I've seen hyphens used in this way before. To me, it seems fine.
