Can you pay my bills?
Can you pay my telephone bills?
Can you pay my automo-bills?
If you did, maybe we could chill.
It's common knowledge that Beyonce' invented the words "Bootylicious" and "Survivor" but not the words "Bug-A-Boo" and "Say My Name", which were in dictionaries BEFORE Destiny's Child formed. BUT, what about their song "Bills"?
What's the third line of the chorus mean? Automo-bills? Is this yet ANOTHER word that Beyonce' invented. What type of usage is that, if she invented "automo-BILLS" from automobiles and bills. It's definitely NOT the same suffix thing as she did with "Bootylicious". So, what is it? Is "automobills" now a legit word?

Also, Beyonce' mentions "Scrubs" in "Bills". "Scrubs" was a word that Left Patch from TLC invented before she died in a plane crash. BUT, is Beyonce' allowed to say "scrubs" in "Bills" if the word was so new? It seems like intellectual plagiarism, IMO, and if Left Patch had lived I'm sure she would have sued Beyonce'.

A couple days ago Evan referred here to "Dr. Dre's 1992 use of "bootylicious". "
"Your bark was loud, but your bite wasn't vicious
And them rhymes you were kickin were quite bootylicious You get with Doggy Dogg oh is he crazy?
With ya mama and your daddy hollin' Bay - Bee"
So 'common knowledge' must be that Beyonce invented it when she was 11 and gave it to Dre.
Invented Survivor? For what definition of the term 'invent'?

Again with 'invented'.

I'm not sure what you mean. Why would you ask such a thing?
Can you pay my bills? Can you pay my telephone ... So, what is it? Is "automobills" now a legit word?

It's a pun. A play on words. You know, witty.

But, she could have simply said "automobile bills", and it would have worked out just fine. I don't get what significance "automobilles" has to the song. At least "bootlyicious", "say my name", "scrubs", and "pigeons" all had significance and HAD TO be used in the songs.

"Automobile bills" wouldn't have scanned well (one too many syllables), so the songwriter came up with a portmanteau word, "automo-bills".

As it turns out, the songwriter for "Bills, Bills, Bills" was not Beyoncé but Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs, who also wrote "No Scrubs" for TLC: .

As the lyrics indicate, it was actually Snoop (Doggy) Dogg who used "bootylicious" in a guest appearance on Dr. Dre's 1992 album "The Chronic". It's also notable that Snoop used "bootylicious" in a pejorative sense, before Destiny's Child christened the ameliorative sense. (Perhaps it shifted from "steatopygic" to "callipygian"?)

"Large-bummed" and "lovely-bummed", respectively...not a shift but a refinement under certain sets of aesthetic standards..r
