Yes, both of them sound right and mean the same; but why use so many words when you can use less:

Aaron can't lie to his parents. "I respect them too much to do that," he says.
Does the original version emphasize his difficulty or struggle that "can't lie" doesn't as much? Or there's no difference at all?
