Hello everyone

I am learning English as a foreign language. I am reading a novel. I don't know if I understood the message of the following sentences.

Would you please help me?

If his sketches had somehow managed to capture the heart of her being, this painting in its exquisite life-like details , gave that heart flesh that seemed to pulse and perspire.

Does it mean that the painter painted her heart in his sketches but in portray he managed to paint the heart so skillfully that seemed to be beating?

No. "The heart of her being" is a commonly used figurative phrase. "Heart" can mean "The most important or essential part: get to the heart of the matter." (AHD) When you look at the painter's sketches, you feel like you know her well. The writer has extended the metaphor, unwisely I'd say, so that even I get the ugly image you got of a sweaty internal organ.
