"It's meant to show how easily people can be 'baited' and caught onto others."

What does caught onto others mean here?

"It's meant to show how easily people can be 'baited' and caught onto others." I don't understand what the person is trying to say here. I don't think this person is a native speaker.

What does caught onto others mean here? I don't know.

'baited and caught' is a reference to fishing.

I think this is a mistake for 'by others', i.e., by other people. Other people can offer you bait you and then catch you. That's a metaphoric way of saying that other people can influence you to do things that are bad for you, like smoking.
