What is the difference between clan and tribe?
They're very closely related and even synonyms by some definitions. It depends on who you ask.

My opinion:

The only distinction is probably that a tribe may include multiple clans. But a clan most likely cannot include multiple tribes.

Clan is also often synonymous with 'family' or extended family, or even limited to a single extended family. But a tribe often includes multiple extended families.

In Scotland, the word "Clan" is synonymous to tribe, because it's not allocated to a big family, but thousands of people. So the two can be confused.
